IF I COULD TALK / BEST DOG FILM SHORT Director

This is a gorgeous short film about a man and his rescue of a blond lab puppy that had been placed in a garbage bag and thrown into the water. He keeps the dog and the short film is about the dog's lifelong relationship with that man and ultimately his family. It's

called "If I Could Talk" and shows what the dog would say to the man if he could.

The thoughts the dog has not only are applicable to dogs and animals we love but really to anyone we love. It is beautiful in its simplicity and emphasizes why we need to love those we love and say so as much as we can as time goes by and our lives together grow short.

Thank You!

I wrote a note to my police chief yesterday thanking him for those first responders who helped me when I needed them and thought of my beloved town that educated me for free, that provided for me, who needed it then, transportation to school. I wished I could thank the many teachers who educated me and provided inspiration for higher education.  I wished I could thank, too, all those persons of color, Hispanics and other immigrants who helped me when hospitalized not once, not twice but three times after post polio issues presented life as a climb up Everest. They carried my food to me, they carried other things for me that are part of life and I thanked God or fate that they were there for me. Yes, it takes a village to help all of us survive.

We do not know the day nor the hour that all of us will, at some time, need the help of a stranger who may have come from a strange land.  We need both the doctor and the custodian, the teacher and the sanitation worker, the physics professor and the carpenter necessary to keep the wheels of life turning.

We must appreciate all those who may not be famous but are the necessities of our lives. The great sages teach us love and not hate.  We are in this together and we MUST learn to live together or we shall all die separately and alone.

IF THE UNIMAGINABLE VIOLENT EVENTS OF THE PAST FEW DAYS IN OUR NATION TELL US WHY THE ELECTION OF HILLARY CLINTON IS SO MANDATORY AND THE RESOUNDING DEFEAT OF A DONALD TRUMP, THE ESSENCE OF HATE, IS SO NECESSARY THEN NOTHING CAN.  PLEASE, PLEASE GET OUT THE VOTE FOR THE ONLY ONE FOR PRESIDENT CAPABLE IN OUR VIOLENT TIMES, HILLARY CLINTON AND ALL DOWN TICKET DEMOCRATS.  THE ELECTION OF THE MESSENGER OF DIVISION AND HATE, TRUMP, TO THE PRESIDENCY IS POURING SALT INTO OUR MOST LIFE-THREATENING WOUND.

The True Face of Terror.

http://www.dailykos.com/…/-Ex-Congressman-calls-for-revenge…

Ex Congressman calls for revenge against President Obama and Black Lives Matter for Dallas shooting

Former Tea Party congressman, Joe Walsh has been pretty actively a terrible person for many years now. He’s a deadbeat dad, and a racist, and everything you expect from the extreme right. Tonight with the horrible events in Dallas unfolding, Walsh...
dailykos.com

The TRUE face of terror. Rightwingnuts are mean, they are violent and are simply dying to create a race war. Does he even realize there are whites who mourn both the black people shot for nothing and the officers deaths as well. His verbiage is meant to inflame and incite what they really want is race war. Do not give it to them. Turn your other cheek and be kind to one another. That is the BEST offense we can present!

LISTEN TO THIS YOUTUBE AND KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO SEE THAT TRUMP NEVER GETS NEAR THE OVAL OFFICE!

An Excerpt

Trump thinks Sadam Hussein was a cool guy because he could control his opposition. I thought we fought a war killing thousands to rid the planet of Sadam Hussein. See Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-saddam-hussein_us_577c626ae4b09b4c43c18be2

Perhaps he would not think Hussein was so cool if he were at the other end of Sadam's lovely torturous tactics and chemical weapons on the innocent Kurds' men women and children as the site linked below says. An excerpt from this site is as follows:

Chemical Weapons Against Kurds --

As early as April 1987, the Iraqis used chemical weapons to remove Kurds from their villages in northern Iraq during the Anfal campaign. It is estimated that chemical weapons were used on approximately 40 Kurdish villages, with the largest of these attacks occurring on March 16, 1988 against the Kurdish town of Halabja.

Beginning in the morning on March 16, 1988 and continuing all night, the Iraqis rained down volley after volley of bombs filled with a deadly mixture of mustard gas and nerve agents on Halabja. Immediate effects of the chemicals included blindness, vomiting, blisters, convulsions, and asphyxiation." See link below.

It is no wonder Trump will not disavow the KKK, anti-Semitic noxious sites, anti-immigrants and racist white supremacists who think Trump is their glorious leader. Those psychopaths are his base. If this guy gets within one foot of the oval office this nation is in DEEP DEEP trouble that will make present history look tame by comparison!

http://history1900s.about.com/od/saddamhussein/a/husseincrimes.htm

TRUMP MUST BE DEFEATED. THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE AND THERE IS NO QUESTION HILLARY'S EMAILS, AN EXAMPLE OF MEDIA OVERREACTION TO ANYTHING HILLARY, PALE IN COMPARISON TO TRUMP'S UGLINESS AND THE HORROR HE WOULD VISIT UPON OUR NATION AND THE WORLD IF GOD FORBID A TRILLION TIMES HE STEPPED ONE FOOT NEAR THE OVAL OFFICE. HILLARY IS THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE TO EVER VIE FOR THE PRESIDENCY. ELECT HER AND PUT AN END TO TRUMPIAN TOXICITY. IF WE LOSE THE CONSTITUTIONAL CIVIL LIBERTARIAN ESSENCE OF WHAT MADE THIS NATION GREAT THEN WE LOSE THE NATION. Pass this to anyone you choose.

A Review by David Shribman of "Bush" by Jean Edward Smith

David Shribman: "Bush" A harsh critique of the presidency of George W. Bush

There can be no mystery where the distinguished biographer Jean Edward Smith stands on the 43rd president, the subject of his latest work (link below.) “Rarely in the history of the United States,’’ he writes in the first sentence of his preface, “has the nation been so ill-served as during the presidency of George W. Bush.’’
The more than 800 pages that follow are devoted to showing why that first page provides evidence enough. The budget went from surplus to deficit; the country went from peace to war; military spending went from 3 percent of GDP to seven times that much. The man in charge was, Smith says, “[u]nprepared for the complexities of governing, with little executive experience and a glaring deficit in his attention span, untutored, untraveled, and unversed in the ways of the world.’’ And he left behind a country, Smith argues, “impoverished by debt, besieged by doubt, struggling with the aftereffects of the worst recession since the Great Depression, and deeply engaged in military conflicts of our own choosing.’’
The review is an interesting read.  Pass this on if you choose.

It is now being reported by multiple sources including Chuck Todd, CNN, and MSNBC that Hillary Clinton will face no charges and no indictment

May I finally say AMEN!!!!!!? I hope the story true. If so you are looking at the first woman president in US history AND her running mate I predict will be Corey Booker!!!!! He is whom I wanted months ago but no one floated his name so I thought of those they were suspecting Julian Castro was my choice. I did not want the uninspiring Tim Kaine who had some okay in VA pay to play politics surrounding him. Corey Booker is personality and intellect plus and his enthusiasm for Hillary showed when he was interviewed. A light bulb went off in my head. Can I let out a YEEEEEEEHAAAA!?
Read the story at the link below.

The Prince of Light

The survivor of the darkest night -- the Holocaust and Auschwitz -- Elie Wiesel is dead.  He was our worldly conscience and the prince of light illuminating the Nazi darkness for all the world's eyes to see. As the Jew often says, may his memory be a blessing.  He voyages ironically now into the darkness of the earth and he will become intermingled with it as dust. This time he goes naturally and as nature intended at age 87.  It is the eighth wonder of the world and is its miracle that he actually lived through the horrors his eyes saw.  I quote from his world famous book "Night" as he so eloquently and with deep emotion conveys to us the living who never experienced what it meant to live through the Holocaust in Auschwitz even for one night.  He said:

“Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed....Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never.”

“Then came the march past the victims. The two men were no longer alive. Their tongues were hanging out,
swollen and bluish. But the third rope was still moving: the child, too light, was still breathing...
And so he remained for more than half an hour, lingering between life and death, writhing before our eyes.
And we were forced to look at him at close range. He was still alive when I passed him. His tongue was still
red, his eyes not yet extinguished.

Behind me, I heard the same man asking:
"For God's sake, where is God?"
And from within me, I heard a voice answer:
"Where He is? This is where--hanging here from this gallows..."

That night, the soup tasted of corpses.”

We, the living, are the lucky ones by an accident of timely birth and our gift of geographical removal never saw the unspeakable that his words convey to our minds eye.  Man's capability of madness is, truly, incomprehensible.

In Daniel Goldhagen's book "Hitler's Willing Executioners -- Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust" he describes the ordinary German, the everyday folk who were needed to make the functioning of the Holocaust work.  They simply were doing the job assigned removing its goal of genocide from the forefront of their minds.  What can we learn when man is reduced to untermenschen (subhuman) which make the bestial slaughter of innocent men, women and children palatable for other men to perpetrate.  Hannah Ardent in her book "The Banality of Evil" (A description of Adolf Eichmann the designer of what to do about the "Jewish Question") says profundities.  Eichmann was not a monster.  He was an ordinary being and describes the perverse actions of normal human beings that become easy for them to do as they incorporate its nationalist rationalizations into every day life.  He was doing it for his country.  He was only following orders.

The profound question, of course, is what can we learn from this bastardization of human behavior?  Never Again rings in my ears always as I look out on a world that seemingly has learned little from the monstrosity of its historically collective malevolent experience.  Again and again we see actions of our own government and actions of those in the eternal civil wars of Middle East religious and tribal hatred which allow them do unspeakable things no one should have the right to do.  Throwing bodies from buildings, placing human cargo in iron carts sunk into the depth of the sea to drown in a horrific death; heads lopped off simply because they are from another group or tribe as if they were trees cut to build a house.  What can we do to stem the tide both at home and abroad to save ourselves from ourselves?

The first and, perhaps, the only step is for the individual we to choose life over death, light over the darkness of our most ugly inclinations and say NO; simply NO.  I will not do this; I will not hate; and I will not perpetrate violence on other innocent beings.  Every one of the living has the right to its life.  What else can we do since obviously never again becomes always again.  The Prince of Light, Elie Wiesel's life counted for something but it is up to us, the living, now to understand and enforce his message.

LET IT BE DONE QUICKLY

Re: Clinton's emails: Naturally the Republicans are trying to pillory Hillary over the plane encounter of Bill Clinton with Attorney General Lynch. So what else is new? They've been pillorying her for 35 years. Having said that I suggest Bill take a vacation and NOT subvert his wife's life. He has done so many things without thought of his own wife and family. He's smart, yes, of course, he is, but sometimes he is stupid and this is one of those times.

Attorney Lynch with Bill on a plane creates profoundly rotten optics I will admit BUT in reality it is as it always has been. Attorney General Lynch has said all along that she would take the recommendation of the career prosecutors and not intervene like Eric Holder did with General Petraeus. Loretta Lynch is the epitome of ethics. I would NEVER think she would twist the process. For her and everyone else it would be prudent to let the process play out. I am, as Bernie Sanders was, SICK TO DEATH of her gd emails.

In my opinion, as I have listened to expert counsel on the issue, what she did with her personal server did not, I repeat NOT arise to the level of "INTENT" to hurt the nation. I-N-T-E-N-T is the operative word. I am angry that it is even an issue and that seasoned, experienced, professional lawyers and politicians would not know to scrupulously monitor what they do or even appear to do. Then again the Bush administration committed all kinds of acts that should have been determined illegal such as torture and taking a nation to an entire war based on lies creating a volcanic eruption in the Middle East. We pay for those damnable choices every day to this very day. Even I was for the Iraq War because 9/11 was overwhelming and I thought -- yes I did think -- that George W. Bush/Cheney knew something we did not. HOW ADMITTEDLY STUPID I was. Politicians ruin their own career legacies with their own hands and have no one to blame but themselves BUT we the people pay for it.

I continue to believe Hillary Clinton used a personal server for the same reasons General and Secretary Powell did -- to protect and control information they had from getting into hands they did not trust . We KNOW the State Department's email policy was no policy at all. Please, FBI for my own sanity and those who KNOW Hillary Rodham Clinton would make a GREAT president -- as said in Scene I of Macbeth -- IF THE DEED BE DONE LET IT BE DONE QUICKLY!

I CONTINUE TO ASK YOU TO WORK YOUR HEART OUT FOR THE ELECTION TO THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF HILLARY CLINTON!

Plagiarized Lessons and Deceptive Tactics: A Look Inside the Trump Institute

What more does one need to know (NYT link below) before this beast Trump is SOUNDLY defeated? Mitt Romney was right Trump is, in fact, a big con. He takes his lessons from the Bernie Madoff school of ripoffs and Ponzi schemes. True, Trump was not selling stock (that I know of) but he was allegedly selling phony deals like Trump University and the Trump Institute.

Now he wants to make the BIGGEST con of all -- the American people -- by taking us -- ALL of us -- for the world's biggest con, capturing the White House to use it in God knows what myriad of ways for his own personal gain and enrichment. I am sure the schemes one could create from it would boggle the mind.

DO NOT LET HIM DO THIS. The dangers of electing this faker to the highest most powerful office in the world are ENORMOUS! I know you will do as I and everyone I know, vote HRC into office and stop this terrible con man from committing the biggest con of his life. As a relative quoted to me "the rising tide raises all yachts but cast small and medium boats upon the rocks."

The Question of my Life -- Istanbul incredulity

The question of my entire living career: How can human beings inflict such hurt both physical and emotional on other innocent human beings?

I ask that question not only of the beasts that struck terror In Istanbul but I ask that of ALL nations who think nothing about dropping bombs on innocents.

I shake my head in disbelief! Does the person doing the killing and/or bomb dropping, cutting off heads and other forms of unspeakable torture ever once put themselves in the other guy's shoes and ask how would THEY would feel?

It is just plain sad and so much of life is. My disbelief of what happened in Istanbul and ALL the Istanbuls is profound and indescribable. What my aunt once said to me is true: It is, indeed, man's inhumanity to man. I weep.

If YOU WANT ISTANBUL TIMES 10 THEN VOTE FOR HILLARY'S DERANGED DISLOYAL OPPOSITION. THE COMPLEXITY ASKS .... NO DEMANDS ... DEEP KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY. HILLARY CLINTON WINNING IS NO LONGER SIMPLY A HOPE IT IS A DESPERATE PRAYER! WORK FOR HER AND ALL DEMOCRATS DOWN TICKET. A DONALD TRUMP IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE IF YOU WANT TO SEE US AND OUR GENERATION'S POSTERITY LIVE!

Trumps Trumpet -- an inferior sound

I worked for many years as a legal executive assistant in Boston. It was a tough job. It required knowledge of some court procedure and computer expertise. In Trumpian fashion -- I was simply the best, incredible even -- NO strike that; I had my good days and bad. As a metaphoric absurdity to my point, though, if one day human resources came to me and asked me to go to court to fill in for an attorney who could not make it for a motion in an important case, aside from the fact that it would be highly illegal, I would think she had flipped her noodle, was cracked and maybe insane. I might have often been good at the occupation I chose but I was NOT an attorney.

When George W. Bush became president I was working at that firm, talking to a friend as the nation held its breath awaiting the court decision that would act as the deciding referee to this volatile and contentious Democrat v. Republican pugilism. I was sick at heart as the the match was decided for Bush. The imprecise tally of the hanging chads Justice O'Connor thought was just fine and in the 11th inning the Bush foul was declared fair.

In my view the Republicons stole the election and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's morphed the court into the arena of a wholly owned political corporate subsidiary where it is stuck in present time. The consequences of that decision would be dire. An intellectually inferior, cerebrally challenged and emotionally incapable dry drunk Bush assumed the presidency of the most powerful nation on earth. I tried rationalization. Maybe, I thought, he will not be that bad. He was that bad and worse. His rancid tenure and horrific historical legacy will be told by the experts but his legacy includes a war based on lies, thousands dead, refugees by the millions, a Middle East dismembered and Europe's fabric altered by the influx of refugees by the thousands to the west. BREXIT is about immigration and Britain's antipathy toward it but Britain fought that deadly Iraq War based on lies too and now they pay the price. That "Mission Accomplished" War Bush in his penile fight suit proclaimed on the carrier Lincoln is now in its 12th year, the longest war in US history. Bush did not know a Sunni from a Shia, had no plan for after the war and wasted trillions in treasure without mentioning the massive amounts of human blood wasted on a war he had no idea how to wage. Worse, on his watch the Great Recession of 2007 landed like a meteor smashing into the earth ruining the middle class and the poor the most.

Al Gore should have been president and, indeed, he retained the popular vote. Imagine how different life could be possibly without a 9/11 and with a climate change correction. When upset in extremis my medical weak spot pays a visit. I began having an optic migraine caused from deep stress. Worse my vision becomes impaired. It is, for me, 20 minutes of hell. The Bush presidency was 8 years of hell the effects of which we experience still.

One would think a nation would learn not to repeat its nasty past. Here we are, though, with the presumed nominee of a major US Party, Donald J. Know Nothing Trump, who thinks he is so fantastic, so utterly wonderful, so "good brain" great that he can assume the world's most difficult job requiring deep knowledge of both domestic and foreign policy. This bully, bigot, and stupid candidate for the presidency could, in fact, if the American electorate is so either clueless or masochistic yet again usher in the earth's most unqualified humanoid for the office of president of the United States.

Trump is a business man as was Bush. The US with its 350 million people is NOT a commodity to be traded away so that Trump can pad his millions as he has been doing all of his life probably paying little to no taxes that the rest of us cough up.

Trump's trumpet in Scotland played its inferior sound which was solely about Trump who did not know BREXIT from Exlax until BREXIT was about to ensue. Trump cared not about the British people or the effects of BREXIT on the world. He cared about his Scotland golf course making him money if the British pound sank.

The presidency could make Donald J. Trump number one on his trumpet's hit parade much richer than he ever dreamed he could be while the rest of us, like the Wall Street of 2007 sink into the 2016 electoral abyss.

YOU WILL WORK HARD, I KNOW YOU WILL, TO ELECT THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE HILLARY CLINTON BECAUSE SHE IS WITHOUT QUESTION THE MOST QUALIFIED TO BE ELECTED PRESIDENT AND YOU WILL VOTE DEMOCRATS DOWN TICKET INTO OFFICE SO SHE CAN WORK TO SAVE OUR NATION!

Donald Trump’s Campaign Paid Trump Companies More Than $1 Million In May The campaign funded Trump’s use of his jets and his Florida mansion, Mar-A-Lago.

If you watched Rachel Maddow tonight it is unfathomable what lying Trump is doing. He is using his campaign contributions as a cash cow for his many Trump enterprises. In other words if you donate to Trump he will use that money as a campaign expense paying HIMSELF the bucks he needs to say fly the Trump jet or use the Trump Mar a Lago estate and on and on.  Needless to say there will be an upheaval in Cleveland the size of a volcano if delegates switch their vote due to conscientious objection which many may use now as the rules committee will be making it possisble. Stay tuned. Better still go to Rachel and see tonight's show. Your jaw will drop! READ THE LINK BELOW TO SEE WHAT I MEAN!
One blogger in response to the article below summed it up so well:

"Rick Douglas · Harvard University said:
Life is a shell game with him. It doesn't matter who the mark is, but in this case it's the American electorate. I'm old enough to have a very long view, but am not a Beltway insider, so consider me a learned schmo who finds Trump as enigmatic as they come. You want theories? I have heard them all. He's in it to win it. He's not serious about becoming POTUS. He's angling to start a cable network and needs the bona fides. Yada, yada, yada. While Donald Trump is the least qualified person to make a run for the White House in modern times, maybe ever, he's a masterful schemer. It's how he has survived all these years. He robs from the poor and keeps the cash. He stiffs the people whom he hires to build his grandiose casinos and hotels. And when they demand payment, he cries foul and sues, or offers them pennies on the dollar. He relishes the chase and the kill and little else. He has neither the intellect nor the temperament to digest policy papers, let alone the art of statecraft, has never learned to listen, and trusts no one except his own adult children. Even Sarah Palin was a governor for a time. Imagine being a poor second to "Mrs. I can see Russia from my house." It's not that the Emperor has no clothes. It's that his pants are on fire."

Another: "just wait when Trump does not win the WH he will be SUING the Republican party to make sure that All his properties get their monies ,,,,"

And another:  "So far the mark has been GOP primary voters. Trump keeps telling his minions that he's self funded. Little did they know he meant he's self funding his other companies with their donations.

Read the link here.  You won't believe it or maybe you will.  Color me, as one blogger said, NOT SURPRISED":

The Garden

The Forward, a liberal Jewish newspaper of American historical renown, wrote a story entitled "The Forward Won't Publish Anything About Donald Trump for 24 Hours" (link below). Quoting from it:

"Many of these threats [from hate groups] draw on connections with Trump’s presidential campaign, using Trump’s image and targeting his critics, including several of our regular writers. Even if you don’t believe that the presumed Republican standard bearer has stoked this cyber-hate (which is a generous assumption), you have to admit that he appears to have done nothing to minimize or condemn it."

I quoted "The Forward" above because I believe it to be true. Trump will not come out and pointedly utter anti-Semitic virulence BUT he also will not, with all deliberate speed, come out and forcefully condemn haters who vociferously support him. Those who love Donald Trump are among the politically most noxious -- the KKK, David Duke and the Nationalist Alliance -- an American neo-Nazi hate group an adherent of which shot and killed the newly minted liberal British Labour Party Parliament member and young humanitarian activist opposed to BREXIT, Jo Cox. Donald will NOT pointedly and immediately reject these right wing extremist groups because he is their Nirvana. They strongly support him. This part of the Republican Party fringe was formerly rejected by that Party but now are in its mainstream. Hate groups are among the Republican base. Nary a negative word is said against them by Trump and if pressed he tepidly rejects them lying, of course, that he does not know them. He knows them alright and there is film footage proof of it.

Where there is hatred of Muslims, hatred of immigrants, women or mocking of the disabled one can be 100% assured if one wades through that muck deep enough one will find virulent anti Jewish sentiment as well. "The Forward" is quite right not to publish anything for a day on Trump to illuminate the fact that this beast, emerging from the depths of the sea, will give Nazi groups and others like them a safe place to be because Trump is an amoral Machiavellian pragmatist. If these despicable groups support Trump he will embrace them. Trump has NO principles but those labeled Trump. He cares about no one but himself no matter the hurt to those whom he thinks are weak and whom he has attacked because the thin-skinned small-handed Trump sees a way to the White House by kicking minorities and hugging haters.

Trump is a shameless bully and bigot. Where his policy is singling out Muslims to profile and mosques to monitor, 11 million immigrants to round up, the disabled to mock and women's medical choices to suppress there is in this poisonous soup antisemitism as well. The poignant truth is in this nation Muslims, Jews, immigrants, women, LGBT, and the disabled need to lock arms because we are, ALL of us, in this together. Trump is an equal opportunity employer who will sow the seeds of enmity against us all to grow an ugly garden of bigotry and hate.

ON A GOOD NOTE

Cleveland Cavs won first NBA championship in 52 years! (link below). Reminded me of the Red Sox lifting the Curse of the Bambino.

Poor Cleveland though. I'd hate to be the ones responsible for keeping order in Cleveland. First the Cavs and then the Republicons --. I rather have 10 Cavs and ZERO Republicons.

BTW useless noxious Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the know nothing do nothing, say nothing wingnut extremist justice is going to retire after the election. Two picks for Hillary IF she wins? I FERVENTLY HOPE!!!!

WHY ALL SANDERS SUPPORTERS AND ALL HILLARY SUPPORTERS MUST UNITE TO SUPPORT HILLARY AT ALL COSTS UP AND DOWN THE TICKET TO KEEP ME FROM JUMPING OFF A BUILDING IF ANY REPUBLICON GOD FORBID A TRILLION TIMES WINS.

In case you are interested: What BREXIT means for the economy--it's important

I would venture to say if one asks the man on the street or even Donald Trump they would have NO clue what in hell BREXIT is let alone how it would affect the global economy -- meaning the US too -- because guess what? We are part of the planet. It is rather important to know what BREXIT is because of its implications for the US economy. I have placed a link below entitled "What BREXIT means for the economy" which I found on Nate Silver's blog. Who is Nate Silver you ask? He is the New York Times genius statistician who created 538 (538 is the total of US electoral votes involved in winning the US presidency) and also wrote a book entitled "The Signal and the Noise." In essence his predictability of all things electoral and other competitive outcomes is near perfect. I did say NEAR perfect. A further short explanation of the European Union (EU) is as Wikipedia states:
"A politico-economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe with an estimated population of over 508 million. It operates through a hybrid system of supranational and international decision making unions. The EU has developed an internal single market through a standardized system of laws that apply in all member states."

In short before you read the link below explaining the implication of BREXIT I will give you a brief summary -- VERY BRIEF -- because I loathe statistics and hate anything with a number in it. Yes, hating numbers puts me at a distinct evolutionary disadvantage which is why I have not made a gazillion bucks on Wall Street but remain safely behind my computer. I digress.

In essence, as I understand it, BREXIT is a vote that will be taken next week in Britain as to whether they want to leave the European Union or not. You may be wondering why the US should care. Trust me (or not) it should. The vote on BREXIT could have profound implications for the US economy especially for all those who have a vested interest in Wall Street and their 401Ks even for those who do not our economy and the world's economy could tank. We all remember the 2007 Great Recession and historically the 1929 Great Depression. We do not, I suspect, want to revisit either.

Britain is a divided nation on many issues especially immigration--sound familiar? On BREXIT the polls are neck and neck. It should be a no brainer that Britain should not leave the EU BUT they have their rightwingnut nationalists too as we have Trump a/k/a Small Hands Drumpf. Yes, sad but true because the real losers in this will be the little guy like most of us.

The division on BREXIT in Britain has taken a violent turn as a right wingnut nationalist Cretan killed a British Labour (yes, that's how they spell it) member of Parliament, Jo Cox. She was a humanitarian and beloved political figure who was against BREXIT. She was killed by a white racist white nationalist who yelled "Britain first" and also who surprisingly (or not) took instruction from the American National Alliance, an American neo Nazi hate group. My opinion, of course, is that Britain should NOT take a page from our explosive political book but should leave well enough alone and remain in the European Union. But what do I know? Read the link below if you want a professional assessment of this issue and how it applies to you. Then go to your broker or retirement expert specialist and ask for their opinion.

Now we not only have to worry about our crackpot rightwingnut politics we have to worry about Britain's too? Maybe I should have entitled this "Back to Prozac Nation. Stop the world I want to get off!"

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. MAKE DARN WELL SURE THE NOXIOUS RIGHT WINGNUT NATIONALIST TRUMP GETS NOWHERE NEAR THE POLITICAL POWER OF THE PRESIDENCY. VOTE DEMOCRAT UP AND DOWN TICKET.

Forgiveness

I am Jewish. I recently perhaps in anger lay most of the noxious behavior against gays at the feet of its etiology and that is The Hebrew Bible Levitical law. It began with that five thousand years ago fueling divine rationale to take the lives of those innocents who were either born gay, as I believe most were, or have chosen to love whom they wish to love. The Levitical "laws" (Leviticus 20) have been responsible for more sadness, more psychological damage and more suicides perhaps than any other Biblical passage. As a Jew I know that there are at least 4 sects within Judaism and maybe more. In Reform Judaism the status of being gay is not an issue. This, however, begs what, I believe, has been the beginning of the millennial assault, scourge and damage that passage and other Biblical passages about sexuality have done to human beings especially if one feels an attraction to one's own sex.

Jews and some sects of Judaism may have progressed beyond the cruelty of these passages BUT monotheistic faiths after Judaism surely picked up the baton of the Levitcal code and made it their own. It spread like a cancer throughout the body of mankind.  As a matter of fact, some Christians eschew other Levitical laws equally as punishable but take the one against homosexuality at face value to their heart and bring its condemnation to contemporary time. It appears NOT in the thoughts of Jesus himself but as part of his follower Paul's writing. Christian response in many corners of the nation is inhuman, sickening and poisonous. I need only memorialize the brutal, disgusting killing of Mathew Shepard in Wyoming or the "God hates fags" Westboro Baptist Church who sweetly picket military funerals calling it God's retribution on earth because he does not like America respecting gay rights -- never mind the soldier who died was heterosexual and had three children. This is American mind numbing know nothing stupidity at its best. Other Christian churches and right wingnut extremists have been staggeringly rancid in their wish for death upon gays. Rachel Maddow showed two pastors whose diatribe about what happened in Orlando at The Pulse nightclub is truly unbelievable. Their sentiment was in essence that it was a good that 49 "homosexual perverts and sodomites" lost their lives. The only quarrel one had was that more were not taken down. This is chilling, indeed, that someone who claims to worship the prince of peace wishes death upon those who want to be left alone to love.

Proceeding, we surely know now as Orlando is seared into our consciousness that Islam considers anti-homosexual tenets as a rationale to commit mayhem upon those whom they find out are homosexual. It is a part of the faith. I do not know if there is any sect within Islam that makes room for the psychological truth and modern day realistic understanding of homosexuality even though we KNOW it appears in every corner of the globe and even among other animal species as well.

When Ahmadinejad of Iran spoke at Colombia University he was asked about the Iranian hostile treatment of gays. He said that there were no gays in Iran. The audience quite rightfully erupted in laughter. Oh sure, no gays in Iran like there is no tea in China.

It is because of the Judaic Levitical code that I have entirely rejected my faith since it meant something so difficult and so impossible for me to understand when love for one's partner culminating in a 31 year relationship should have been lauded and celebrated. When one cannot even find safety within the protective cocoon of one's home something is terribly awry.

I harbor NO forgiveness in my heart and believe the rancid, toxic, cruel and inhuman Levitical law to have permanent besmirched my religious faith making forgiveness of it by my mortal being impossible. If there is a god, I will leave forgiveness to him.

Trump is NO friend to the LGBT Commnity

In Trump's speech over the weekend he declared essentially war on Muslims in this nation and those who are fleeing certain death and anarchy war brings. The innocent are seeking shelter in a nation whose Republican candidate for the highest office in the land, the presidency, knows to spew only fear and hate in his poorly thought out incendiary rhetoric. I am sending again what I wrote about Trump's opinion on LGBT rights. Suddenly after the Saturday night horror murder or 49 souls at a gay club he says he wants to protect gays and cries horror at their murder. This is lie number -- well who knows there has been so many. In the final analysis Trump is NO friend to the gay community and I reiterate an opinion I posed last week to explain why.

Trump, you are using the monstrous killings at the gay club in Orlando, Florida for your campaign as IF you are a friend to the gay community. NO, you are NO friend to the gay community, in fact, you are trying to ratchet up hate and discrimination not only toward gays but to Muslims as well as if that would solve anything.

Trump does NOT deserve to be a part of the mourning for the gay community because in reality he and many of the people who support him are the greatest haters of gays, want to deny rights to them that are taken for granted by most in the nation. So why should he even get an opinion on this national sadness when the hate that emanates from him and his supporters creates it?

All those 50 who were slaughtered and the 53 who were injured, some gravely, at The Pulse nightclub in Orlando owe a special debt of gratitude to Trump and his supporters for providing the mentally deranged with military style guns and the rationale they need to use those ugly weapons of war to hurt and kill gays or really anyone.

Thanks but no thanks, Donald. You are not part of the nation's solution you are part of the problem.

YET ANOTHER REASON THE PSYCHOLOGICALLY UNBALANCED TRUMP SHOULD NEVER GET, AS ELIZABETH WARREN THE GREAT SAID, WITHIN SHOUTING DISTANCE OF THE WHITE HOUSE. VOTE DEMOCRAT IN NOVEMBER UP AND DOWN THE TICKET!

UNITE!

Trump is so dangerous in so many ways, so divisive and so hateful relegating gay Americans to second class citizenship and other innocent minorities to fascistic rejection here with perpetual exile and almost certain death abroad.

It must be made crystal clear why Democrats everywhere MUST unite. To remain the least bit divided is unacceptable. Democrats, we must, even if Bernie Sanders will not help in uncompromising fashion or gives lukewarm support, STRONGLY UNITE on our own--ALL of us.

I love Bernie Sanders but when all is said and done after the election he goes back to a comfortable life and a lifetime job in the senate if he wants it.The rest of us, the 98%, go back to uncertainty and if god forbid Trump wins, healthcare will be removed by Republicans and other necessary policies made during the last eight years of the Obama presidency will be eradicated, and, in fact, many of us will die.

A Trump Republican win would mean our economy, Sanders most passionate issue, will remain social class lopsided with the middle class, finally, completely disappearing. Republicans remedy of trickle down economics, incredulously, will return to a trickle up system that brought us the Great Recession except this time it will be on steroids. It is that serious if Democrats do not unite behind the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, who actually has a sound economic plan while reducing the Republican's favorite issue, the deficit and debt, at the same time. Moreover, she will keep our nation safe through experience she has gleaned first in the senate and most especially as secretary of state. She will NOT alienate Muslims who are on our side and who are helping us as I write this opinion.

Sanders, not wholeheartedly supporting the Democratic choice puts for me into question what the TRUE motivation of Bernie Sanders is because if those who supported Bernie do not now vote for HRC than the election could, in fact, make Trump the victor. We and Bernie Sanders must see this.

BRING BERNIE SANDERS AND HIS SUPPORTERS ALONG WITH INDEPENDENTS INTO THE DEMOCRATIC FOLD TO HAVE A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENCY WITH ALL THE HUMANE BENEFITS PRESIDENT OBAMA WORKED SO HARD TO CREATE ASSURED! GET OUT THE DEMOCRATIC/INDEPENDENT VOTE AND THE DEMOCRATIC DOWN TICKET VOTE AS WELL -- PLEASE!

WHY?

What is the value of one human being? What is the value of 10 human beings? What is the value of 27 human beings, of 33, of 50 or 6 million human beings? What price do we put on the taking of an irreplaceable life? More important than the numbers of human being's lives extinguished is the question of why were those lives taken, an infinitely more complex question to pose. Numbers are in black and white but the whys of those numbers are infinite.

When I was younger and violence was in many corners of our nation's rooms even at that time I would discuss with my aunt about the whys of violence because she was smart and a socially concerned person. I thought her older, wiser and hoped she would give me at least one profound answer to that question. She answered usually by saying "It is man's inhumanity to man and it has always been with us." But that answer never was good enough for me. Forty five years later I am still looking for the answer to that intractable question. Why can man inflict such cruelty on other men without feeling a shred of empathy for those they hurt or kill nor do they often feel guilt for their acts? Why? How can a stranger walk into a nightclub and without hesitation murder 50 human beings he never knew. He did not know their families, their friends, or anyone else who might have loved them. He only knew he wanted to kill them. Why?

Is violence innate, is it learned, it is a sociological phenomenon, a psychological one or is it a psychiatric malady? I think, now that I am the age my aunt was when I first posed the question to her, that the rationale for the unfeeling perpetration of violence and its mayhem are all of those things.

I do think that few enter this world hating. I think hate, as the lyrics from the musical, "South Pacific" say "has to be carefully taught." Yes, one must be carefully taught minute by minute, day by day and year by year by members of one's family, by the pastor, rabbi or imam of one's religion, by teachers or children in the schoolyard and one must, too, be equipped with a special form of DNA that psychologically insulates him from thinking about how that other guy feels. One must not care about such things if one is to perpetrate violence, death and mayhem on another and feel no compunction about it.

Democracy and diplomacy break down when one thinks his cause is more just, more righteous and that gives him a permission slip to kill. Personally, I find it difficult to kill an insect. I ask why that is so and yet another feels no hesitation whatsoever to kill another human being? I do not know the entire answer to that. If I did I would solve my eternal question completely. I know only this: that I see the brevity of life, the harshness of it and the toll it can take on humans that have been given the gift to see it all so I empathize with those who come into this short life short-changed. I am reminded of Teddy Kennedy's eulogy for his brother Robert which advocated helping others rather than hating them. He said:

My brother … saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it. Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today, pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will someday come to pass for all the world.

I try to advocate for the dispossessed and the poor for what else is there in life but to give meaning to the meaningless and hope to the hopeless. We will never, I think, stop violence and man's inhumanity to man but I can hope the one small candle I light will help others to brighten their world.

IT CANNOT BE THAT TRUMP WALKS INTO THE PRESIDENCY AND SO ALL OF US MUST SEE THAT HE NEVER DOES. VOTE AND HELP OTHERS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT UP AND DOWN THE TICKET IN NOVEMBER.

Gay club massacre in Orlando -- 50 dead 53 taken to hospitals

At a gay club: 50 dead -- 53 taken to hospitals. They are calling it Islamic terrorism. In reality my guess would be that Christian Fundamentalist wingnuts will be cheering and Jewish orthodox will say they deserved it. Just a guess! I'm with Bill Maher organized religion -- especially orthodox religions STINK!

It is Gay Pride Week. I am sure that is no accident and I positive there will be mass vigils at least I hope there will.

As Rachel Maddow would say: "Watch this space."

Mitt Romney: A Trump Presidency Would Spawn ‘Trickle-Down Racism’ -- I THINK NOT

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…/mitt-romney-trump-racism_us…

Mitt Romney: A Trump Presidency Would Spawn 'Trickle-Down Racism'

The entire Republican Party has themselves to blame for Trump. The attacks by Trump against Judge Curiel are par for the Republican racist course. Mitt Romney says with Trump there will be trickle-down racism. Calling Trump a racist is like calling Hitler antiSemitic -- No kidding. Most of the Republicon Party is ALREADY racist and why Trump is now its nominee. Why the so called "establishment" is going berserk against Trump is NOT because of racism. That is just the palatable excuse. Since when did Republicans and their Teabaggie friends care about racism? They care ONLY insomuch as it means the rest of the electorate will find Trumps judge accusation unacceptable and Hillary will walk into the White House in a romp.

The entire Republicon Party is the Party of white! What they do care about is trade. They like it and they like FREE trade. That is why they are so adamant against Trump under the guise of being against racism because he is against NAFTA, CAFTA, and TPP trade agreements that have made the 1% disgustingly wealthy and left the 98% in a ditch. They do NOT care about you.

The Party that wants to deny the vote to THOUSANDS of blacks, blocked Obama with unyielding and insulting opposition politics is in toto about race. Calling Trump racist by Romney is utterly ridiculous. OF COURSE he is racist. That is what it means to be Republican and why white nationalsists and KKK white separatists find a home in the Republicon Party, why the Party is 80% white and why Trumpet ran as a Republicon appealing exclusively to the white male vote and he wants to get more of that white racist male vote.

It is why the south is red state Republicon. The ENTIRE racist hate- filled Party -- Trump and all --have a racist component and need to be electorally CRUSHED. But they do not care they are racist because their real care is about FREE trade. The 1% stands to lose billions if the vile agreements are expunged but the middle class will gain jobs. The Republican Party does NOT care about racism and does not care about middle class jobs. They are about losing their billions. DO NOT BE DECEIVED. Republicans are in toto a racist joke if they were not so deadly consequential to the rest of us who are not.

Rubber and Glue

The judge Curiel blow up of Trump's own campaign by Trump himself was no surprise.  Something was going to get this candidate who simply cannot help his psychological disorder of OMSF.  In case one does not know what that disease is I just made it up.  It's short for Open Mouth Stick in Foot.  It is no surprise either that Trump uses racial invective he thinks will advance his campaign courting the white nationalist vote, the only racist vote of which Trump can be assured while trying, at the same time, to win the day for the multi-plaintiff lawsuits against faux Trump University.  As one asks during Passover:  Why is this night different from all other nights?  Unlike the answer for the beginning of the Passover story it is answered in this saga by saying:  It isn't.
Elizabeth Warren's speech at ACS was nothing short of brilliant and mesmerizing in it veracity describing the character of Donald J. Trump.  His answer to Elizabeth Warren's scathing and efficacious attack was to use his trusty insults by calling her "Pocahontas and goofy" seeming like a 12 year old bully.  Donald, couldn't you manage to rise to even that occasion by sounding just a little smart?  Shame on you Donald J. Trump.  Let me reach into my childish retorts I used to use on the elementary school playground when someone called me a name and say "I'm rubber you're glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!"

In My Lifetime

I attribute my love of American history, parties and politics to my father.  He was a lifelong Republican but loved a Democrat, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was president a record breaking 12 years from 1933-1945 dying in his 4th term in office. My father loved everything about him from his aristocratic background, to his charisma, massive intellect and his inspirational use of the English language.  He would quote Roosevelt's words with Roosevelt's inflection such as "dastardly attack" referencing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor or "we shall return agāin and agāin (pronounced with a patrician-sounding long second a) as well as "in our righteous might" referencing the imminent-coming of war after the Pearl Harbor attack the US was poised to enter and Roosevelt said we would in our “righteous might” win.  Of course, the famous Roosevelt quote from his first inaugural address "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" was a Rooseveltian staple of our many discussions of that era.

He gave Roosevelt credit for rescuing the nation giving it a New Deal sorely needed as a series of ineffectual Republican presidents before FDR could not philosophically fathom much less politically perfect a government assisted economic exit from the staggering joblessness of the Great Depression.  He, even though a Republican, saw the value of government response as FDR carved out this New Deal to breathe life into a dying nation.  My father placed country over Party and crossed his political line because he loved our nation more than he loved the Republican Party and saw the country needed immediate change.  Roosevelt, he said so often, saved the nation.  My father was born in the year 1906 when the other great Roosevelt, Teddy, was president.  He died in 1985 and was witness to much history.  He saw the emergence of an automobile transportation nation from the centuries old horse and buggy.  He told me the family lore that my grandfather had the opportunity to buy stock in a device called a telephone which my grandfather declined saying "Ah, a telephone will never happen."  Aversion to risk I inherited from those genes.

My father saw more.  He saw Dough-boys marching to WWI and even saw the last of the Civil War vets marching in Memorial Day parades.  He saw the bread lines of the Great Depression and watched as so many, wiped of their fortunes, jump off buildings because they had lost all hope.

There was more he saw in his time.  He heard the drumbeats of Nazi Europe and saw in newsreels the marching of Nazi jackboots across European soil. He feared for his Jewish brethren but knew nothing of the monstrous concentration camps to which they would be sent.  Still, he said he felt secure in the geographical safety of this nation and knew those in power would not let it happen here. He remembered where he was when he heard of the Pearl Harbor attack and remembered the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki self-assured that this nation had to drop it against, as he saw it, an intractable Japanese and to save thousands of American lives from a Japan mainland invasion. When I asked him as a Jew was he not afraid of Hitler?  He said no, that he felt safe and secure in this massively strong country and because when our nation's people, quoting him, "rolled up their sleeves" he knew it would prevail. He had faith in the country.

He saw, too, the first Catholic president and his game changing assassination.  He saw the moon landing and also remained faithful to Richard Nixon until his helicopter exit and beyond it.  He saw the rise of protest in a nation that was not accustomed to such things as the questioning of its power and the moral rightness of a war it waged.  And he saw television that became a unifying force as we collectively viewed the Ed Sullivan Show, I Love Lucy, Bob Hope and 15 minutes of nightly news.  His life ended before he could see his beloved Red Sox winning the pennant and the World Series finally breaking the 1918 so called "Curse of the Bambino" for which he never forgave Harry Frazee, the Red Sox owner at the time who sold the Babe and my father did not see 9/11.

The historical baton was handed to me and I have seen other histories that overlapped my father's view and many that did not.   I saw 9/11, the rise of terrorism, the Boston Marathon bombing and other mayhem that came before it and yet to come after it.  I saw another humanity obliterating war mendaciously entered from which there is seemingly no exit.  I became aware of our nation's sins -- slavery and the Jim Crow laws in the south that kept persons of color from voting and kept them segregation separate and not equal at all.  I saw that prejudice in Boston as well as some violently opposed busing.  I lived though, too, Brown v. the Board of Education and the "Voting Rights Act" that attempted to right these moral wrongs inflicted for centuries on persons of color by a nation that turned its back on its holy creed of equality as Martin Luther King said “where its persons of color were concerned.”  I saw a civil rights movement and the murder of Chaney, Goodwin and Schwerner killed by vicious racists in Mississippi as the doomed men attempted to register persons of color to merely vote and I saw in 1963 the hideous killing of four young black girls attending religious services unknowing that a conspiracy of racist white men would bomb their 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

I saw, too, women stuck in roles they did not want and suffering through abusive marriages from which they could not flee because they had no source of income.   Finally, through the pressure of the women’s movement women secured at first a few low paying jobs but jobs nonetheless.  I saw women endure and, in fact die, from unsanitary back alley abortions finally freed from them through Roe v. Wade that made the procedure legal and safe.  In my lifetime I have seen many things such as the emergence of technology and the Internet.  The most profound national change I witnessed, though, was the election of the nation's first black president and I waxed jubilant bathing in the exceptionalism of a nation that had come so far and I lived to see it.

Now, in my lifetime, I have seen the first woman nominated by a major party with a more than even chance of becoming the first woman president in our nation's nearly 250 year history and 100 years after women secured the right to vote.  I have seen the greatness of this nation prevail due to its ability to perfect institutional change because a few brilliant men created a Constitution in 1787 that made it possible for it to improve itself non-violently and through the rule of law living up to its inborn creed that all men are created equal.  It is how our Republic survives to this day despite forces that would tear it down hearkening back to "the good ole days" that often were not very good at all.

Maybe, if I live long enough, I will see in my lifetime a nation that unites itself from the vestiges of its long ago Civil War past realizing that every life within it is in it together.  Benjamin Franklin was asked what type of government the Founders created.  He said "A Republic IF you can keep it."  May we do so and may it, using the great Abraham Lincoln's words, "not perish from this earth."

MAKE HILLARY CLINTON THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

Bernie -- Short quote-- Summary Point--From the Bottom Up

Below under my italicized comment is a poignant Bernie quote from his speech last night. I aver this election is more than Bernie and even more than Hillary. Howard Zinn, the brilliant historian and my social conscience mentor influencing the development of my politics, always told me that change comes from the bottom up and not the top down. And so it has been that way with the major social and economic changes and movements perfecting them that have come to this nation in response to history's suffering that comes to all humanity. Our nation has lasted because there are institutional methods to change a nation. We did that last night and we will do it in November if you work for it and vote. On to the November election and let's win it for ALL of us by supporting our Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton and sending Donald Trump, an extremist right wing racist demagogue, using a Ronald Reagan term, to the ash heap of history!

The excerpt from Bernie's speech last evening:

"After ticking through his campaign's accomplishments and thanking his supporters, Bernie Sanders aimed his fire at Donald Trump.

“Our campaign since day one has understood some basic points, and that is, one, that we will not allow right-wing Republicans to control our government. And that is especially true with Donald Trump as the Republican candidate," Sanders said.

“We will never support a campaign whose major theme is bigotry, who insults Mexicans, who insults Muslims and women and African-Americans," he added as the crowd booed.

“We will not allow Donald Trump to become president of the United States," Sanders said.

Then he pivoted to his main campaign themes.

"But we understand that our mission is more than just defeating Trump, it is transforming our country," he said."

The Inimitable George Will on Ryan/Trump

I love George Will's expressiveness even if I do not love his politics (See link below.)  He says in part "The Caligulan malice with which Donald Trump administered Paul Ryan’s degradation is an object lesson in the price of abject capitulation to power." Love Caligulan Malice.
Another:

"The pornographic politics of Trump’s presidential campaign, which was preceded by decades of ignorant bile (about Barack Obama’s birth certificate and much else), have not exhausted Trump’s eagerness to plumb new depths of destructiveness. Herewith the remarkably brief timeline of the breaking of Ryan to Trump’s saddle."  Love "pornographic politics!"
or
"The Hamlet of southeastern Wisconsin had indeed learned something. He had learned Trump’s contemptuous response to his scruples. Trump’s response was an insouciant intensification of his anti-institutional politics — the judicial system, too, is “rigged.”"  Love the Hamlet of Eastern Wisconsin referring of course to "Hamlet" the  Shakespearean epic tragedy of personal destruction that is in the person of Trump.

Now read Will's opinion in its entirety:

NOW SEND THIS MAN TRUMP INTO HIS PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRE OF HADES WHERE AN EPIC LOSS WILL SEND HIS EGOTISTICAL SELF AND NOT INTO THE SANCTITY OF THE OVAL OFFICE WHERE HE DOESN'T BELONG!

Trump Orders Surrogates to Intensify Criticism of Judge and Journalists

An embattled Donald Trump urgently rallied his most visible supporters to defend his attacks on a federal judge's Mexican ancestry during a conference call on Monday in which he ordered them to question the judge's credibility and impugn reporters as racists.

"We will overcome," Trump said, according to two supporters who were on the call and requested anonymity to share their notes with Bloomberg Politics. "And I’ve always won and I’m going to continue to win. And that’s the way it is."

There was no mention of apologizing or backing away from his widely criticized remarks about U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing cases against the Trump University real-estate program.

When former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer interrupted the discussion to inform Trump that his own campaign had asked surrogates to stop talking about the lawsuit in an e-mail on Sunday, Trump repeatedly demanded to know who sent the memo, and immediately overruled his staff.

"Take that order and throw it the hell out," Trump said.

Told the memo was sent by Erica Freeman, a staffer who circulates information to surrogates, Trump said he didn't know her. He openly questioned how the campaign could defend itself if supporters weren't allowed to talk.

"Are there any other stupid letters that were sent to you folks?" Trump said. "That's one of the reasons I want to have this call, because you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren't so smart."

Brewer, who was on the call with prominent Republicans like Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, interjected again. "You all better get on the page," she told him.

In response, Trump said that he aspired to hold regular calls with surrogates in order to coordinate the campaign's message, a role usually reserved for lower ranking staffers than the nominee himself.

The e-mailed memo, sent by Freeman on Sunday, was cc'd to campaign manager Corey Lewandowski; Hope Hicks, Trump's top communications staffer; and Rick Gates, a top aide to campaign chairman Paul Manafort. It informed surrogates that "they're not authorized to discuss matters concerning the Trump Organization including corporate news such as the Trump University case.”

"The best possible response is ‘the case will be tried in the courtroom in front of a jury—not in the media,’” according to the e-mail, obtained by Bloomberg Politics.

Hicks declined to address the specifics of the conversation with surrogates.

"The call was scheduled in order for Mr. Trump to thank his supporters and congratulate everyone as the primaries officially come to an end," Hicks told Bloomberg Politics. "Many topics were discussed and it was a productive call for all parties."

Trump's five weeks as the presumptive nominee have been marked by several missteps: A refusal to release his tax returns, confusion among donors over which super-PAC to give money, audio of him using a pseudonym to act as his own publicist, failing to donate to veterans groups as promised until pressed by the media.

But the most incendiary controversy has been his handling of Trump University.

The biggest stories of the day, every day.

Trump ignited the controversy when he defended his real-estate program by saying Curiel has an inherent conflict of interest because of his Mexican heritage, because the candidate has proposed building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border to curb illegal immigration. Curiel was born in Indiana, and Trump's complaint has been criticized by Republican leaders, legal experts, and other commentators. Trump on Sunday broadened his argument by saying on CBS that it’s possible a Muslim judge could treat him unfairly too, because of his proposed ban on Muslim immigration.

"I should have won this thing years ago," Trump said on the call about the case, adding that Curiel is a "member of La Raza." Curiel is affiliated with La Raza Lawyers of California, a Latino bar association.

A clearly irritated Trump told his supporters to attack journalists who ask questions about the lawsuit and his comments about the judge.

"The people asking the questions—those are the racists," Trump said. "I would go at 'em."

Suggesting a broader campaign against the media, Trump said the campaign should also actively criticize television reporters. "I'd let them have it," he said, referring to those who Trump portrayed as hypocrites.

About Me

Natalie Rosen
I love man's capacity for reason and I question everything. There are many things which interest me and there is so much to learn. I am interested in things political, consider myself definitely left of center and believe in the Constitutional separation clause. I am interested in belief systems and the nature of man. I am an agnostic but admittedly more probably an atheist. I worship science as a way to explain the nature of life on earth. I value intellect more than money. If I had the choice to be rich or gifted I would choose gifted. I love learning and humanitarian reason above all else.
