State's
witness, Rick Gates's, Manafort's partner in the Paul Manafort trial
was on the stand. Gates wants a reduced sentence for testifying against Manafort. Without going into
great detail that judge seems off. He is making all kinds of incendiary
statements toward the prosecution regarding their looks and other
inappropriate things. The judge sounds like he has some kind of
emotional problem as
he is making very biased angry comments against the prosecution which
judges should not make.
The
problem, of course, for the prosecution is they cannot appeal the trial
if they lose the case even if the judge is guilty of ridiculous
behavior and even if he pushed the trial in the defendant's
favor--double jeopardy and all that. The defendant can appeal but not
the prosecution.
In
my unbiased opinion though the voluminous papers in the Manafort case
prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he committed the crimes alleged
but it could be possible for the prosecution to lose it because of
the judge's biased and uncalled for comment
s
. Unless
the judge
proves himself otherwise
,
the prosecution drew a nasty judge!
