"When They See Us" wins at Critics Choice Awards after rejections: I cannot think of one film that deserves it more than "When They See
Us." The horror of the Central Park jogger and the rush to white
judgment arresting the wrong young black and Latino teenagers is front and center about the dastardly issue of race in this
nation. Persons of color have suffered since the first slave ship
dropped off its accursed cargo in 1619 in Virginia.
Things change from
generation to generation, of course, but being born black in this nation
always was and still is fraught with danger and unjustifiable racism.
Hollywood is finally waking up to the contribution persons of color have
made. It's been a long journey from Gone With the Wind's Mammy to "How
they See Us." All I can say is it's about time!
