Charles Blow is a brilliant editorialist for the New York Times and his article of January 30, 2014 entitled “The Incredible Shrinking Presidency” is no less so. I paste his article here and below.
I went from volumes of hope in 2008 to a depression disorder in 2014 because of Republican insanity. What I wish journalists would mention -- no scream -- is that our state of national malaise, disappointment and division was handed to us by an intractable, obstructionist and malevolent Republican majority in the House who wanted nothing more than to see the president fail and said so many times. He did not fail. The greatness of his presidency, I believe, one day will be judged so because of the army of massive monied Republican forces aligned against him to defeat him which they could not and did not do.
If Republicans did not take the House majority in 2010 then we would not have the gridlock we do. Many good and humane laws would have been passed easily. Our collective sadness and pessimism can be laid solely at Republicans' feet as they gleefully tried to shut the government down as well as not pay the nation's bills so the world could convulse and seize up. We should never let the electorate forget it.
I hope and pray hard that America sees the error of its ways that put know nothing Republicans as majorities in the House. Those majorities are shameful. They are our nation's curse. The depressed state of our union is not the president's fault it is theirs.
IT IS EXACTLY WHY NO LESS THAN AN ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC VICTORY MUST OCCUR IN 2014 ALL OVER THE NATION AND IN WASHINGTON. WE MUST WORK FOR IT ANY WAY WE CAN. WE MUST, AS OFTEN SAID, TURN THE HOUSE BLUE, KEEP THE SENATE AND SAVE A DEMOCRATIC 2016 PRESIDENCY FOR THE DEMOCRAT WHO WILL RUN (HOPING OF COURSE IT IS HILLARY!)
