Police
power does not mean taking a non violent man down, accusing him of a
non violent crime, handcuffing him, placing your heavy knee on his neck
until he suffocates to death. Police power should mean defusing the
matter taking into account that the man is accused of a non violent
crime and unarmed to boot. Police power means using the power that has
been entrusted to you to equitably dispense justice no matter the race
or the cultural reality of the alleged perpetrator. Police power means
arresting a person as non violently as possible and if probable cause
tried, found guilty and then sentenced by a jury of his/her piers.
The
Minneapolis police did none of of those things but became judge, jury
and executioner stepping and crushing a person's right to a fair trial
with zero empathy, compassion and because the officers simply did not
care enough to stop.
