Avoidance of Dementia

The editorial in the March 25, edition of the Metrowest Daily News entitled "Hope on Dementia" (linked here or below) was, indeed, as interesting as it was a positive article about a malady which people of boomer age and even younger fear. There is nothing I value more than coherent intellect and thought -- not wealth, not physical agility or any other yardstick one uses to measure success. I fear a loss of one's memory and coherent thought more than I fear almost anything else.

I do try, as best I am able, through exercise, proper diet, weight control as well as expanding my mind to new ideas, concepts and realities in our ever-changing world in an attempt -- I hope not in vain -- to ward off the debilitating disease of dementia associated with aging.

In the end we are given the gift to view this life, short though it may be, for a limited time which seems to pass more quickly as one ages. We must make it count, I believe, for the betterment in the lives of the least of our co-occupiers of the planet and to make life count for more than one's occupied space on it. It is not, I think, what life gives to us that matters but what we give to help make the lives of others better.

IT IS WHY I AM A DEMOCRAT AND WHY I ADVOCATE VOTING FOR DEMOCRATS AND WHY I WANT TO GET OUT THE VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS ESPECIALLY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.  WHOEVER IT TURNS OUT TO BE HILLARY OR BERNIE THAT IS THE DEMOCRATIC CHOICE DO NOT TAKE YOUR TOYS AND GO HOME IF IT IS NOT THE ONE OF YOUR CHOICE.  YOU CAN NEVER EVER GET IT ALL BUT ONE PARTY IN OUR TWO PARTY SYSTEM CARES ABOUT THE POOR, THE SICK, THE ELDERLY AND THE DISABLED AND IT IS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.  THEREFORE I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH -- GET OUT THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE!
