Justice Jackson's eloquent statement sums up why
I am a left of center and vehemently anti-right wing nationalist.
The Opening Statement of Robert H. Jackson at the Nuremberg Trial
on Nov. 21, 1945 is one of the universally determined greatest pieces of judicial oratory. Here are excerpts as presented by Court TV.
It should be heard by everyone but, of course, is probably known by but a few.
Listen, heed and know why this nation's extremist right wing Republican
nationalists reflected in our midst are now a curse on this nation,
racist, cruel, dangerous and should be soundly rejected by the humanity
of our nation.
The Nazi authoritarian regime was first won by
Democratic means and then day-by-day usurped power. The Republican
Party, I believe, has the seeds of that malevolence within it directed
by the few for the direct elimination of the "other" and, I aver, by any
means necessary. If they gain power and do what they have professed to
do make no mistake many will be killed. Do the right thing and do not
let this happen.
