Bob Gates's memoir, many times against the president, has backfired (see link here or below) and it SHOULD. Those in the president's base, and I am one of them, to the contrary thought the president was too conciliatory to his generals and conducted policy most of the left of center held in dismay. It is refreshing from Gates's "memoir" to learn that, like President Kennedy, President Obama was skeptical and questioned his military.
WE ARE NOT A MILITARY FASCIST state where the top does everything the military wants. As this article states had Kennedy done what the military wanted during the Cuban missile crisis we would all be dead. The 1968 right wing presidential third-party candidate George Wallace's running mate, General Curtis LeMay, virulently critical of Kennedy, advocated war with the then Soviet Union.
I continue to think the president has been, as I have always thought, in error to think Republicans could be bipartisan as Republicans are NOT in the least bipartisan. Perhaps Gates was a Republican plant OR Gates does not know what he is talking about as he tried to play both ends and in the middle during his career.
Shame on you, Bob Gates, your expose is not only false but a betrayal based on less than intellectually smart argument. Attention must not be paid!
