The Jewish Heart cries out--Duxbury High School's antiSemitism

 

The Massachusetts suburb of Duxbury has the distinction of its very winning high school football team surprisingly jumping into the foray of anti-Semitic verbiage when the team thought it would be clever to use a play-calling system strewn with vairous Jewish words the worst of which was Auschwitz.  Play calling systems are not new and are used by the pros as well as amateurs and professional wannabes.  According to the Boston Globe sports writer Dan Shaughnessy "Peyton Manning became famous for hollering “Omaha!”

​Duxbury football players thought they would try that but chose to utter the words referring to Jewish themes like rabbi​ or dreidel (a four sided spinning top) and, oh yes, not to forget Auschwitz, the most notorious of German concentration camp killing fields for the specific purpose of killing Jews -- 6 million or more of them to be exact, one million children or 2/3rds of the Jews of Europe during WWII.  Where were the Duxbury adults and the Duxbury coaches, what did they know and when did they know that hurtful words referring to Jews would be used for calling plays in a football game?  Some are calling for the dismissal of the head coach.

These words were used, perhaps, as comedy or worse used with serious antiSemitic intent.  Both rationales for their use are unacceptable. At the risk of verbosity when addressing anti-Semitism I am succumbing to the notion that a picture is worth a thousand words.  The three pictures below address the seriousness of the words used and why so many are calling for the coach's dismissal and/or the firing of any others who knew of their use.

Excellent article linked below on the importance of vaccines written by Tom Mountain the vice chair of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee. He tells of his own debilitating experience getting COVID and waxes incredulous as to those refusing the COVID vaccine today. He is ebullient retelling vaccine history when infants and children were vaccinated against diphtheria, measles and polio.

I am a strong vaccine advocate as well because I contracted polio at age 5 in 1954. I got it 6 months before the first vaccine for polio came out. How much do I wish it had come out in time for me to get vaccinated? There are no words for me to describe how much. Polio paralysis is no joke. It is life long and sometimes even fatal.  It is often supremely debilitating and psychologically damaging. I accept all vaccinations available from polio, to shingles to the flu and now especially for COVID. Why there are those who reject it and worse make it a political decision in line with Trump and his absurd mask refusal I will never know.  This is supremely insane.

The Plot Thickens

Rather then extrapolate on the myriad of offenses the fraudster Trump who occupied the oval office previous to his direct opposite successor, President Joe Biden, I enclose four reports and one opinion that explain only one of many of Trump's illegal, unethical and egregious behaviors that should have been responsible for his impeachment, conviction and shameful exit from the much maligned presidency he soiled.  There are, of course, more behaviors that warranted that including his seditious instigation of the Capitol attack.

An Inconvient Truth

 

I listened as did millions in the United Kingdom, this country and around the world to Oprah's interview of Meghan and Harry who tell their sad saga centering around Meghan's racist experience within the UK's royal family after her marriage to Prince Harry, the second son of Charles and Diana.  Entering a family through marriage whether the marriage is royal or otherwise is supposed to mean acceptance into another family's circle of safety and hope for the continuance of the familial line through expected progeny and the utterance of solemn vows. It is at one time serious, solemn, and grave but it is also a happy, hopeful and joyous occasion.   It is supposed to mean protection, it is supposed to mean a feeling of added safety and security extending one's arms from one family circle into the arms of another especially so within the British royal system.

It meant none of those things to Meghan or, for that matter, neither to the man she was marrying and why was that?  Meghan Markle's mother is Black and her father white.  What it did mean to Meghan and to Harry, too, was rejection, the pulling of a royal title and the offering of zero security in an oftentimes hostile environment and world filled with death threats to them. This smart, beautiful, articulate and courageous woman, Meghan Markle, had the unmitigated gall to expect this powerful royal court called "the firm" or "the institution" would protect and defend her against the vicious lies promulgated by the even more vicious UK tabloids pitting the part Black Meghan against the all white future queen, Kate Middleton. Questions regarding the lie of who made whom cry and what the color of Meghan and Harry's first child, Archie, would be upon entering this world of pomp, circumstance and rigid class structure had to be humiliating for Meghan and Harry to endure.  Meghan's trial by fire taught her that this royal family would do nothing to protect the part Black Meghan from the vicious gossip and lies of an out-of-control British tabloid press in this milieu of mendacity but everything to protect the all white Kate.

Surrounding this whole saga, of course, is the thorny question of the impact of race in a too familiar racist world.  The problem for this royal institution is the all too familiar refrain of one drop of Black blood and its impact on the pollution in the royal's eyes of its generational lineage.   What would the color of Meghan and Harry's child be?  The "firm" actually had the temerity to ask this question in this vortex of incredulity.  That along with the refusal to provide security and help for lives at risk probably were the straws that broke their backs.  Charles, Harry's father, and heir to the throne refused to take his son's calls if one can believe that a father would not care for the security of his own son, Meghan and Harry left for more secure pastures.

Meghan felt so besieged by a hostile press, its lies and by her uncaring royal family that a severe suicidal depression set in.  When she asked for help none would be provided.  Why? She was told it would not look good.  To hell if Meghan actually killed herself at least the royal reputation would not be soiled.  But it is soiled and perhaps, irredeemably so as the history of British colonialism looms large.  The Commonwealth of the UK is, as a result, quite ethnically diverse and many will identify with and see Meghan as the victim.  We in the US surely know the stranglehold of racism in a thousand different ways. It is, after all, sadly, a metastasizing cancer still institutionally infecting us too.

I suspect we have surely not heard the end of this inconvenient truth the ramifications of which will stretch far and wide.  Meghan and Harry have been much sinned against but I have never heard a more articulate, poised and convincing interview revealing the whole sorry saga.  Kudos to Meghan and Harry who had the courage to tell their difficult story to Oprah whose professionalism always shows.

What Trump did to the Supreme Court installing a 6/3 so called "conservative" majority which is poised to annihilate the 1965 Voting Rights Act altogether is the height of immorality pitting those with ultimate money and power against those who are poor, minorities, Native Americans and even the disabled.   Is this what democracy is supposed to look like?  I think not.  It should not look like wealthy predominantly white Republicans want it to look. It should be representative of the diversity of a predominantly diverse nation. That is what the rise of white supremacists in this nation fear the most.

How does our present day politics reflect the January 6, 2021 sedition of white supremacists against our nation and threaten centuries fought for civil and voting rights? I thought our nation was better than that.

Those white supremacist seditionists used to be on the fringes of our political landscape. Not any more. They are expanding across the nation because of Trump.  This is guaranteed to place the minority Republicans appealing to their side car of racists into majority status by electoral success which they only arrive at if they unfairly cook the books and cheat.  This is patently unfair but is testament to Trump and Republican Minority Leader McConnell's usurpation of Supreme Court power unethically and their inability to gain electoral success fair and square.

 Colson Whitehead was interviewed on "Sixty Minutes." I am Kindling the "The Nickel Boys," written by him. This story is right out of the Jim Crow south based on a true story of a 111 year juvenile detention center in Tennessee the brutality of which is indescribable.

When does the persecution of persons of color ever end? My sadness about the plight of African Americans knows no bounds. I am sickened by it. Century after century and decade after decade of humiliating white cracker mentality, human beings brought to this nation on slave ships, backs scarred from whippings, endless beatings, brutal punishments  and sold into slavery with its sunrise to sunset work ethic, this book is probably unbearable to read. Read it I must, though, to know this is the part of America that is, indeed, the other America about which all should know and see.

Then we must go and do all that we can to rectify these egregious wrongs perpetrated on millions whose only sin was to have been born with a skin the color of which would not fade to white.

A political compatriot of mine blogged and said to her followers to keep an open mind where the prosecution of Donald Trump is concerned.  Paahleese keeping an open mind is easy when it is about the criminal enterprise of the Trump crime family because Trump, the grifter, makes it so. Anything short of jail would be a travesty of justice. Keep the pressure on to have him prosecuted by every and all means necessary within every state he is implicated in nefarious activity.

May SDNY DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. and Letitia Jame, the daughter of former sharecroppers who is now a legal dynamo going after Trump, as well as Georgia DA Fanny Willis going after Trump for election fraud violations, be successful.   She says "This investigation includes, but is not limited to, potential violations of Georgia law prohibiting the solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election's administration."  The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the RICO statute, used for organized crime, could even be employed.

Trump will be 110 years old before all the litigation ends. In the meantime, he could spend a good share of the rest of his life preparing for more trials while in jail. He should be very busy a lot more so than playing golf, spending the taxpayer's buck more than any other president in US history while embezzling millions from his sucker and loser crone contributors. At least he could be locked up so that he does not eviscerate and destroy this nation again pilfering its treasury while raping our checks and balances brilliant Founding Fathers' creation trying to subvert it even through instigating the violent attack of the US Capitol, the seat of our democracy, to institue himself as authoritarian rule president, God forbid, for life. 

God forbid, too, he runs for office again, maybe like the Boston Mayor of old, James Michael "The Last Hurrah" Curly, who was the uber corrupt mayor of Boston from a jail cell. Let's make sure Trump is one and done!

It is amazing what certain mental illnesses like malignant narcissism can do.  I am not a psychologist but many professional psychiatrists and psychologists have, through constant media exposure, observation, as well as social and interpersonal assessments of Trump have come to that significant abnormal psychological diagnosis of him.  Mary Trump, his niece and a trained psychologist, in her book "Too Much and Never Enough" explains his psychologically pathological malignancy. He, in the depths of his being, can never be wrong and surely never admit to being wrong much less apologize for the wrong he has done. His only success, sad for our country and those of us who impugn him, was winning the presidency. 

A malignant narcissist in particular will go to any lengths even violence to protect the depths of his very fragile ego. He will commit any illegality, any unethical behavior, any forms of violence to protect himself from the exposure that failure could bring to him even though he has, rationally speaking, failed at nearly everything he has done whether in business or surely in the administration of his presidency. He can be responsible for the death of thousands but never take responsibility for it and when he has millions too stupid, racist, psychologically damaged or politically pragmatic who support him and give acceptance of his behavioral toxicity then all the better to encourage his abnormal being. Who does suffer? He doesn't but we the people surely do.

House Managers Cleaning House--So let it be written

 

The House Managers' presentation of the second impeachment of Donald J. Trump was utterly meticulous.  It made me proud to be a Democrat and be aligned with a party that has an abundance of academic excellence.  As you can see from the summary in Politico below Jaime Raskin, et al prepared for weeks and it showed.  All of their renditions were magnificent as they left most in stunned silence at the description of the extremist rightwing seditious and murderous attack on the Capitol.  It was a total implication of Trump and his instigation of it.  Republicans will be hard pressed to acquit Trump and yet a gambler's assessment would probably predict that Republicans knowing they are complicit by supporting Trump no matter his egregious lawlessness will, in fact, acquit the most immoral beast.  Republicans are without shame in supporting Trump's treason and his four long year attempt at the overthrow of Democracy and the rule of law. Trump would have failed a long time ago without Republican support and without Trump I think I can safely say the attack on the Capitol never would have taken place. 

It is a divine miracle that more than 5 were not killed that day in the Capitol on January 6 and another miracle that there were not more than 140 injured. If not for the Capitol Police a slaughter surely would have taken place. 

Yes, I am praying for a third miracle that Trump be in an exclusive historical club by being the only impeached president who was found guilty and never allowed to attain high office in our nation again.  Let this be the beginning of the cleaning of our house of Trump's malevolence purging it and us of its squalid lethal impact on our nation.  Our nation by acquitting Trump in the first impeachment stepped up to the water's edge of authoritarian rule but, perhaps, prayerfully now, will not dive in.  So let it be written!

JAMIE RASKIN’S (D-Md.) emotional appeal to the senators — he told the story of burying his 25-year-old son one day and being petrified the next that the mob would kill his daughter and son-in-law in the Capitol with him — left the chamber in stunned silence. And Rep. JOE NEGUSE (D-Colo.) shredded the Trump argument that a post-presidency trial is unconstitutional, invoking big-name Republican voices to make his point.

2) Trump’s attorneys blew it. There’s a reason “My Cousin Vinny” started trending on Twitter when Trump’s lawyers took the floor. The meandering presentation by BRUCE CASTOR barely made sense: One minute he was complimenting senators, the next talking about getting lost in the halls of Congress. Then there was that weird digression about the phrases “floodgates will open” versus “release the whirlwind,” which one senior GOP aide described as “the long extended riff to nowhere.” And what was with the rambling about “smart jurists in Nebraska”?

“I ain’t no lawyer but I know enough to know that was some bad stuff,” Sen. RICHARD BURR (R-N.C.) told fellow Republicans in the cloakroom immediately afterward, per another senior GOP aide.

DAVID SCHOEN was marginally better. But his harsh tone — he accused the Democratic managers of being “fueled by … hatred” of the Republican base after Raskin nearly broke down crying — did not go over well.

3) Trump is pissed. Down at Mar-a-Lago, Trump was yelling at the TV as he watched the proceedings, per Tara. Maggie Haberman adds, “On a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the angriest, Mr. Trump ‘was an eight' ...

The mood was similarly sour in the broader Trump universe. Mid-defense, Newsmax cut away from Castor to go to Alan Dershowitz , one of Trump’s attorneys during the first impeachment. “I have no idea what he’s doing,” Dershowitz said of Castor. “I just don’t understand it.” (Dershowitz also bragged that he taught Raskin at Harvard Law.)

4) It just doesn’t matter. Senate Republicans looking to justify an acquittal vote were hoping for a little cover from Trump’s team. So far, they haven’t gotten it — and in fact were highly critical of the defense. Sen. LINDSEY GRAHAM (R-S.C.), Trump’s top ally in the upper chamber, admitted he didn’t know where Castor was going in his presentation. Sen. TED CRUZ (R-Texas) said both Trump lawyers were bad and called Raskin “impressive.” Sen. JOHN CORNYN (R-Texas), a close ally of McConnell and former judge, complained Trump’s team “just rambled on and on and on … It was not one of the finest [legal performances] I’ve seen.”

In the end, though, only one Senate Republican changed his vote on whether it was constitutional to impeach a former president — Louisiana’s BILL CASSIDY.

5) Cassidy’s got stones. It’s not easy for any Republican to cross Trump, let alone one from a deep-red Southern state. Cassidy shocked the chamber — and his constituents — when he did just that, joining five other Senate Republicans to say the proceedings were in fact constitutional. Cassidy took the opposite position in a late January vote, and Republicans are already rebuking him in his home state.

Here’s how Cassidy explained his vote: “The House managers were focused, they were organized … they made a compelling argument. President Trump’s team, they were disorganized. … One side is doing a great job and the other side is doing a terrible job. … As an impartial juror, I’m going to vote for the side that did the good job.”

6) This thing is over. If the compelling presentations of the managers — and shoddy work by Trump’s – weren’t enough to move the GOP senators Tuesday, it’s not going to happen.

Goldwater's famous verse “Extremism in defense of Liberty is no vice and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue” is in error. 

Although I am a firm progressive this article below supports the truth of the reality of the vote. Although I love Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the other very left of center Democrats they can win regional elections but absolutely cannot win general elections and should be rejected as nominees for the highest office. Biden centrism is the only way to go and Democrats should be savvy, realistic and prudent about that!

"Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), who's said he may vote this month to convict former President Trump on an article of impeachment, is pushing back against possible retaliation from the Nebraska Republican State Central Committee by warning that his party must choose between "conservatism and madness."

 Cheers to Ben Sasse.  If one is a regular watcher of MSNBC one has seen Ben Sasse interviewed by a commentator like Joe Scarborough numbers of times. He is one of the heroes like Steve Schmidt of the Lincoln Project, Republicans cut from a civil cloth and separating from the insanity of some of the current composition of the Republican Party. 

I have said it is good that Marjorie Taylor Green was not expelled from the House because she serves to split the Republicrat Party down the middle so that it will become easier for Democrats to hopefully win more seats in the future and take a more commanding majority in both the House and the Senate. Republicans with their extremist Proud Boys, Boogaloo Bois and QANON crackpots will mean, I hope, doom for the Republican Party and that is, I believe, a good thing.

While I like what Ben Sasse has to say I will never, of course, be Republican. Unlike Sasse I do not believe in limited government which got Herbert Hoover canned when FDR was elected for the first of four terms to the White House because of his policy of strong government action. If they truly believed in limited government they would not deafeningly oppose a person's choice for a mate in marriage, a personal choice for the termination of a pregnancy and they would strongly support civil rights. I believe in government when necessary when it is impossible for the nation to survive without its economic help like now and I believe in the strong arm of government to stand against discrimination, against voter suppression and for individual choice on matters of private personal decisions.

Liberalism is the only way if one is concerned about the nation's economic welfare, fair and just government with respect to human rights and, yes, individualism when it comes to personal matters of choice.

The separating of children from their parents at our southern border was the most disgusting crime against humanity perpetrated at the instruction of Donald J. Trump.  Trump should be hauled away to the International Criminal Court in the Hague for prosecution of crimes against humanity.  His Nazi like callous and egregious disregard for human rights is the earmark of his presidency and why his was the worst presidency by far in the annals of US historical depravity.  May he rot in jail for all his illegal, cruel and deplorable acts!
