My Comment: This is a fabulous article a friend sent me and right on the money so to speak linked below. The media and its incessant algorithms sweep over us like a tsunami. We must break away from it and I too try only to return. It's a vicious cycle, promoting crudity, coarsening of culture and a removal of the individual from well everything except his i phone, computer and himself. People's heads are buried in them because great minds have figured out the algorithms that turn us on (and out.) Will this truly be the death of America as we knew it or could its strength honed 250 years ago by genius men of their time survive it?  I don't know.  Here are some extrapolations from it.

No. Are you kidding? We’ve created a performative game, in which true self expression is mocked, scorned, thwarted, and stifled. I’ll leave that topic for the future. Suffice it to say that algorithmic addiction is one the gravest new problems of now.

Harassment How Judge Alex Kozinski Made Us all Victims and Accomplices by Dahlia Lithwick and My Comment

Dahlia Lithwick is a brilliant writer about the courts and analyzer of the law for Slate.  She has appeared many times on The Rachel Maddow Show and gives on point well spoken analysis of many legal and court issues.  The article linked below she wrote on the alleged harassment of Judge Alex Kozinski whom she first met when she was a clerk for the chief judge of the 9^th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.  She discuses her response​, ​silence to it and indicts herself for remaining silent about it for so long.  Few of us, though, I believe, should judge the path other women have chosen to respond or not to the sexual harassment behavior of powerful men.

I am not a lawyer but worked in milieus of the very powerful who could fire me on a whim thereby cutting off my venue for survival forcing me to go on the hunt for another job not easily acquired. Sometimes when the opportunity presented itself I would argue in support of a workplace issue that favored my employer rather than incur its wrath by arguing for what I thought the morally right opposite position should be.

It happens whether about sexual harassment or something else that we are too fearful of the powerful who can determine almost literally whether we eat or starve even live or die. I was then sometimes, if you will, a self-admitted kisser upper because I simply never wanted, using the cliche, to rock the boat and threaten the wrath of the more powerful. Other times it was because it simply is not in my nature to do so. As a Jewish woman I believe some of it, too, is in my ethnic survivalist DNA. What will we take and how demeaning will it be to ensure we even live. I may be way out in left field with that analysis because we know sexual harassment crosses all ethic lines. For me, though, it is just one more explanation among many why we do what we do.

More Moore?

There is no one on planet earth who would LOVE the teen predator Roy Moore to lose more than I would. I do, however, believe Roy Moore will win and sadly so.

What is happening to our nation under Trump is sickening and soon when they pass the middle class obliterating tax bill all those middle, working and lower class whites will realize what they did by voting Trump Republican.

Maybe someday the southern states which need government help the most and get it will realize they are stepping on their own toes by voting Republican.  Trump does not care one fig about them. He is in the presidency for the bucks and even one of his children said his father was not about loving them he was about making money.  When one realizes that all the news that is fit to print makes sense.

Alabama, I pray, I know futilely, should vote their economic and healthcare interest by turning from screaming red to a beautiful blue. Make the south great!

Growing up in Gaza in the Dark -- My Comment: Amen

Yes, I am a Jew who once gave Israel my entire support until most especially now with Trump doing the unthinkable making Jerusalem the capital of Israel knowing it would provoke violence around the world and ostracize this nation from humanity's hug once again. Of course, it has provoked violence most especially in Gaza but even in NYC where the transit bomber said that Trump's words on Jerusalem, in part, compelled him to strap a bomb around his body and attempt to blow the subway rail line up and innocents with it.

Horrific and though the event small I suspect it brought chills down the spines of those of us who lived through 9/11 and even ones who did not. Any bomb exploded in NYC does that to me. I paste the video link below entitled "Growing up in the Gaza Strip in the Dark" because I have reexamined the Palestinian plight which I have done periodically throughout the years but never more so then now. 

Listen to that story linked below and empathize with the conditions that provoke so many Gazans to violence when desperation reigns and the fatal Trumpian Injustice Disease spreads.

I wish, though wishes will not make it so, both sides would take a breath and come to compromise for a two state solution where each major religion shares a part of Jerusalem and two states one Palestinian and one Israeli, share it as its capital. What would the sound of the silence of peace feel like?  Nirvana defined in part by Webster's Dictionary as "place or state of oblivion to care or pain," .... to that I say Amen!

Pure speculation on my part still I cannot help but think it could be that a rationale for this latest NYC bombing will be used for Trump declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel. We will have to wait and see but these are the kinds of violent acts of retribution for President know nothing doing such an insipid and UNNECESSARY act declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel as he catered to his not too bright base!  The most unfair, unjust, unethical, murderously unconstitutional presidency in US history.  Will we ever get our reasonably just nation back again?

Thoughts on a snowy day

Someone posted on my FB page "There are over 350,000 churches in America so why are there 200,000 homeless people sleeping on the street?"

It gave me pause for thought.  We are a sad divided nation. There is so much injustice here it is hard to contemplate. The worst part of it seems to me to be the fact that so many in this wealthy nation simply do not care. There is a social milieu that says in Ayn Randian cold fashion sink or swim on your own; live or die on your own and that it is not the duty of a nation to help those who cannot help themselves. It changed for awhile during the Depression when Franklin Roosevelt altered the social contract saying that a nation has the responsibility to care for its people.

We still fight over this today as the pendulum now has swung the furthest it can go to the racist rancid right. No one here should be sleeping in the street; no one should be homeless without food without a job without healthcare and without hope. We must decide who we are as a nation and can we come to any agreement as to what use our riches should be put. Our greatest expenditure is not, contrary to what Republicans say, the social safety nets or so called "entitlements" -- which are not really entitlements since we paid for them -- our greatest expenditure is the military and since post WWII all the futile unnecessary wars this nation has fought and how many lives lost that should not have been is staggering.

We have wasted trillions that could have fed the poor, clothed the naked, built housing for the homeless and educated the young. I have chosen my political slant to believe we should care as a nation for those who in this life did not catch a break; who were born into this life unlucky by fate. As Harper Lee of to "Kill a Mockingbird" fame said  “You never really know a man until you understand things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." Food for thought on a snowy New England day.

Roy Moore Believes America Was Great During Slavery -- Churchill, Deuteronomy 6, A shining city

As Republicans in Congress cabalistically try to impugn doubt and suspicion on special counsel Mueller to try to remove him and his pristine investigation since he is getting closer to the indictable illegalities Trump's family and cohorts allegedly have committed trying to form an alliance with Russia and other egregious acts.  For political reasons a great progressive Democratic Senator Franken is besieged and run out of the Senate post haste without trial or defense; without facing his accusers he is forced to resign but Republican Roy Moore, a pedophile whose accusers even Republicans do not doubt, will soon be seated in the illustrious body of the US Senate.  A Chief Executive remains in the highest seat of power, has been allowed to get away with the most heinous crimes of assault on women, pass a tax bill that will not even help our people who suffer the California fires losing everything including their homes.  Trump has allegedly committed other crimes against our Constitution, our nation state and against humanity itself.  Where has justice gone, where has fairness gone and where has our rational national mind and will gone?

Roy Moore soon to be Senator Moore thinks slavery was a dandy idea (see link below) and a wonderful way to organize society.  He yearns to return to that era and our national Republican Party will accept him into the highest halls of our national power.  Our nation's Republican Party has gone insane with greed, the acquisition of power and the money they can squeeze out of it.  Republicans, as George Carlin said, want it all.  They want your Social Security, your Medicare and Medicaid. They, he said, want it back, they want it all back so they and their friends on Wall Street can get it.  They do not care if we die in their attempt to even eliminate our access to affordable health care by repealing the ACA mandate.

Bannon, Trump's brain, wants a violent chaotic clash of worldly civilizations and he wants the chaos of a race war to descend upon this nation.  Will he fight those wars?  Will he put his own skin in the game?  Will Trump put his skin in the game?  I suspect his bone spurs will preclude that.

We must fight Republican's attempts to bring down investigative special counsel Mueller creating a Constitutional crisis in this nation. This is what happens when a nation elects con men and stupids over smart, rational and kind.  This is when our big brain crumbles and ruins the last great hope of democracy as Republicans dupe its innocent supporters who do not know not to drink the Kool Aid.  

Even though states have fallen to Republican madness or may fall into the grip of fascistic reactionary politics we who believe in democracy, fairness and justice for all -- paraphrasing and amending for my own purposes Churchillian verbal greatness -- we must not flag or fail. We must go on to the end, we must fight with growing confidence and growing strength whatever the cost may be, we must never surrender.  This should be the promise to our posterity.  Our Constitutional democracy as it has evolved over 240 years is what should be left to our future generations.  Paraphrasing in pertinent part Deuteronomy 6 and Ronald Reagan too ... Repeat the fairness ideals of our Constitutional republic.  Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up so that someday they will inherit the justice of our democracy and return to the creation of that shining city on the hill!

A Broken Heart and a Soul to Forfeit

My heart is broken.  My friends do not want to listen to me anymore inconsolable in grief by the damage this president has done.  The damage, though, is incalculable and the war waged on the poor monumental that I simply cannot ignore it as much as I promised not to write one more thing.  From the courts to domestic and international politics Trump's administration is a train wreck for those who can least afford to suffer it.  The buck, as Harry Truman said, stops with the president.

To put the icing on this corrupt cake Al Franken it is said will resign tomorrow under the "Me Too" sexual harassment accusation orgy.  My heart is truly broken for what has befallen him.  Franken won by a slim margin in Minnesota and showed us how very smart he is.  He was the liberal's liberal and the progressives'  cause for hope. Now that is gone with so many Democrats asking him to resign.  I think he will sadly do so.  If he does Franken will be gone and the allegedly religious man and former judge, Alabama Republican Roy Moore, someone who committed the most egregious sexual sin of all, pedophilia, will be hypocritically seated in the United States Senate. 

Even worse, the king of hypocrites, the president, has been accused by so many women of multiple serious sexual batteries by his own admission on the Access Hollywood tape entered the oval office like a bull in a china shop.  The State Department has been emptied of its ambassadors and personnel.  Nation states around the world formerly our allies are turning their back on us.  Britain our "special relationship" ally does not want to permit Trump into their nation.  People are sitting in Trump's cabinet woefully unqualified for the job and he is milking the presidency for all the money he can get out of it with conflicts of interest galore, ignoring the Constitution's emoluments clause while he dines on tax increases for the poor and middle class but digests billions of tax cuts for the top 2% including himself though he lies about that as he lies about so many other things like alleged collusion with Russia and money laundering. 

Trump thrives on chaos and conflict like we thrive on bread and water and we are the excrement of his diet.  We the people are the woeful recipient of his madness raising taxes on the middle class and the poor while dramatically decreasing them for those who do not need it and destroying the Affordable Care Act in the process by eliminating the healthcare mandate which effectively crushes the ACA which Republicans have tried a plethora of times to repeal.  They did it by a singularly underhanded tactic of slipping it within the 500 page partially hand written tax bill no one had read because Republicans kept it hidden.  I hope the protests are loud and strong from sea to shining sea ending with sit-ins in Republican offices.  Congressional Republicans' jobs should be threatened and they should feel the public wrath.  I hope Trump faces sleepless nights from a myriad of toxic policies and personal unethical conduct that ends with his removal from office.

I am reminded of a Jesus phrase on which the soulless Trump should contemplate:  "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?" Mark 8:6.  Perhaps, Trump does not worry about that because he has no soul to forfeit.

RESIST -- RESIST THE REPUBLICAN TAX BILL BY CALLING, EMAILING, SITTING IN OR SMOKE SIGNALING ALL THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS YOU CAN.   SEND THIS TO ANYONE YOU CHOOSE.

Capital -- Jerusalem?

Trump, in the middle of his own financial volcano ready to blow, decides to create one more explosive policy as if he does not have enough on his plate threatening his presidency.  Maybe it is why he decided to throw a nuclear bomb into the arena of Israeli, Palestinian and Middle East peace threatening to tear its fragile status asunder.  He says he will declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel and ultimately (we know not when) he will move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as he campaign promised.  As one says in Yiddish: now that's huzpah (nerve)!

As a Jewish woman whose politics has been hewn out of the embers of the Holocaust that saw the near extinction of the Jews of Europe, my philosophy of humanitarian politics was born.  This latest political belch of Trump is, without a doubt, the most dangerous policy he could create besides dropping a bomb on North Korea, a distinct possibility too. Trump has an aversion to logic and no understanding of both international and national politics.  He understands zero history of the Middle East or anywhere else for that matter.   Even his own advisors do not want him to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel because they know how inflammatory it would be.

Declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel is Bannon's influence on Trump and plays into Trumpian tactics throughout his ugly life.  The goal is to create as much chaos as possible both here and around the world.  Trump declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel will get that accomplished. The Middle East will blow up and Jews will be killed in Israel and beyond. Innocents of every stripe will face death and that includes Palestinians as well whom we all should care about.  We are of one race -- homo sapiens -- the human race.  We should act like the human big brain beings that we are and that 200,000 years of an evolutionary miracle has been bestowed upon us.

Even if diplomacy between these warring Palestinian and Israeli tribes is difficult it is the only path outside of eternal war we have.  No one, whatever one's political bent, should want eternal war!

For your reading pleasure and to better understand how difficult the peace process between Palestinian and Jew has been I paste below a link to a chronology of the torturous attempts to create peace between Palestinian and Jew since the 1967 Arab/Israeli war.  We know hostilities go even further back than that spreading throughout the entire Middle East.  We all should know Trump is trying to  dismember, entirely, a fragile cessation of hostilities that has itself erupted into violence many times.  Trump's impolitic move will put the icing on a tinderbox cake ready to explode given the right conditions. Trump is such a condition.  

Trump is a malevolent and fatal cancer spreading throughout our nation influencing right wing extremist politics here, throughout western Europe and the world.  This stage 4 cancer needs to be electorally eliminated from our body politic before it, in fact, kills democracy and our entire nation with it.

My Letter to Jeff Corker

Events sometimes are so important that they must be addressed.  Though I grow weary of formulating opinion this time I must.

Senator Corker, I am writing to you because I love this nation. I am not a Republican but I care about the well being of our nation and our democracy. I am staggered with fear of this president. I wake up and immediately think that something is very wrong. I think about the danger in which our nation exists because this chief executive holds the keys to life and death of all of us and he is massively dangerous and inept.

I believe this is the worst era in my historical memory. In a way it is almost worse than the milieu of WWII because there is a nation, North Korea, waiting for an excuse to use nuclear weaponry which probably now could reach Washington and there is a US president that is just as threatening as Kim Jong Un.

Larry O'Donnell interviewed an excellent Harvard professor of psychiatry, a Dr. Dotus, who diagnosed the president as psychotic and felt he was qualified to diagnose him as such. He said Trump is the most dangerous psychotic because he exhibits a thin veneer of sanity. But, he said, when the president is stressed he goes off the rails and is irrational. Bringing up the citizenship of Obama yet again when Trump won the last election or questioning the veracity of the Access Hollywood tape saying it's not his voice is a man who is out of touch with reality. The psychiatrist thought that there is a grave danger of nuclear war because when the president is stressed he cannot think rationally and contain himself. It is a more dangerous kind of psychosis because of his thin veneer of sanity.

One usually thinks of psychotic as someone talking incomprehensibly. This president does not exhibit that BUT it does not, he said, make his psychosis any less so and, in fact, makes it more of a grave danger to everyone. His supporters either cannot admit he is out of touch with reality or if they do admit it they don't care and delude themselves. Where are the Republican leaders to corral the Republicans in Congress into facing reality and remove this out of touch man from office?

I call on you, Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and other rational Republicans to move to remove this psychotic president post haste before there is no nation from which to remove him!

Dying

Since Drumpf smashing into the oval office and especially since this tax insanity increase on the middle class and the poor, blow up of the deficit not to mention the obliteration of health care this administration is killing this nation. Moreover, they are gutting the State Department when we need it most with N. Korea nearing the acquisition of a nuclear bomb that could hit Washington I simply cannot write anymore or at least must take a break from things political in written form. I know I've said it before but I loathe injustice so and Republicans know nothing else but harming the weak and powerless that I risk my health if I allow our national nightmare to rock my life.

It's so bad that I am afraid to greet the next headline every morning. This tax bill given to the megga rich on the backs of the middle class and poor killing health care for millions will be crushing. Say bye to your property and other deductions. The rich can expect their beneficiaries will duck an estate tax they should pay. The 2% who will get their taxes cut big time the savings of which will NOT trickle down to us. It will trickle into their bank accounts. The nation will run an extra trillion or two deficit and Republicans will try to pay for it by eventually taking Medicare, Medicaid, and even Social Security away. George Carlin the great comedian and social critic in his "American Dream" act I have shown, before he died predicted just that. Yes, it is a piece of brilliance. I warn it has some profanity but is stunning in its prescience. What Republicans are doing to this nation is more profane than anything else could be. I will post the George Carlin link below. Add to the insanity a religious wacko pedophile no less will be taking a seat in the senate. I give up!

President Beast

Our vile president Drumpf made a "joke" about his nickname for Sen. Elizabeth Warren, “Pocahontas,” during an event honoring Native Americans Monday at the White House. "Trump was recognizing Native American Code Talkers who served during World War II when he made the remark about Warren.  Native American Code Talkers were largely Navajo Marines who transmitted commands over the radio to soldiers overseas in their native language during World War II, after both sides became more adept at decoding encrypted messages. Native American code became more reliable than Morse code in the war, notably aiding U.S. efforts in the Battle of Iwo Jima.  Trump made his comments Monday while standing in front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson, the former president who signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 that resulted in the tragic Trail of Tears. Thousands of Native Americans died of cold, starvation and disease during the harrowing trek to the undeveloped Western territories."  (See link below for the story)

Drumpf said ″You were here long before any of us were here,” Trump told Code Talkers during the event. “Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.”

Drumpf is an IDIOT of IDIOTS and those Indian men Code Talkers who gave their service to this nation to help win WWII should NOT shake that asshat's hand. He is NOT their friend. He is a friend to no one but himself. Doing what he did to these native Indian individuals while honoring Native American vets is RUDE, CRUEL and MORONIC, all appellations I would use for Drumpf not to mention insulting to a US Senator whose boots this rancid imbecile so called president could not shine!

Drumpf is simply a cruel and insensitive bastard to (1) make the racist insulting comment to Native American Indians and (2) to do it in front of a picture of Jackson the rancid president who was responsible for the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears one of many treaties with American Indians this nation would break.  Drumpf is an ignorant BEAST.

The depths of injustice I see in this world is what fuels the fire of my eternal resistance. I cannot stand the injustice as I sit in my warm house with plenty of food, heat and water at my whim. Why is it like that I always as a youth asked. Why when some have so much others are condemned to that woman's harsh existence in poverty. The child she holds will be another recipient of the madness and nothing will change. Why, why, why, is always my question.

Communism, a good idea except human beings pervert the idea of equality​, ​rape their own people they claimed the wanted to help​ and oligarchs steal the people's cash​. Socialism a good idea that does not in practicality work. Trumpian Nationalist Fascism the opposite form of government to socialism in cruelty, sadism, and perversion threatens to come down on all of our necks except the select rich few will be spared its wrath. Why does it have to be this way when the nations of plenty ignore the sad plight of so many, the haves stuff their pockets with the people's ​cash, fill their bodies with food and after a Thanksgiving feast ​peacefully sleep ​​ and with kindness help those who cannot help themselves?

I was in a check out line in the supermarket. There was an elderly man in the line checking out what he had bought. He had a baseball type cap on with veterans things on it one of which was a WWII Vet patch.

Did you ever kick yourself for not doing what your impulse said you should to do? I wanted to walk over to him and thank him for his service in, perhaps, the only "good and moral war" this nation has waged in the 20th century and in this century in my memory.

I was born after 1945 but WWII is remembered often by me perhaps because I am Jewish but also because of the tenor of unity this nation felt at that time.  It is something I love about that era and wish that unity were here now.

I did not thank him as I became shy but now I wish I had. I will never get the chance to do that now but at least on social media I can make a public statement to those vets of WWII -- THANK YOU SO MUCH. This nation saved my grandparents and some aunts from certain Nazi annihilation in the Poland and the Ukraine if they remained there. I thought that episode of anti Semitism was over but it is not over as it rises again because the immoral president Trump makes room for right wing Nazis, KKK and Jew hating extremists. In Europe nationalism and its accompanying antisemitism hovers over that continent like the plague of death. Poland recently had a nationalist parade of thousands in the street accompanied by what else Jew hating extremists which were so much a part of Polish and Eastern European culture. They hated the Nazis in Poland but many loved when Jews were taken from their midst saying "Bye Jews, bye Jews."

So I thank in spirit that elderly man whom I wish now I thanked in person while he and I are alive. Thank you, sir, for your service!

How Politics and Bad Decisions Starved New York’s Subways--My Comment: Betrayal

Our nation is crumbling and the beast in the oval office can only try to get his signature tax bill a HUGE windfall for the 2% wealthiest on the little guy's back passed. Drumpf stands to gain at least a BILLION bucks and with the inheritance tax waived his putrid offspring will get it all. Teachers won't be able to deduct the supplies they pay for out of their own pocket for their students but the 2% will get their billions. Many will get no state property taxes deduction as the 2% wealthiest drown in their tax cuts. You, the middle class, will get a tax increase. Our national debt will increase ultimately by trillions.  Billions will be taken out of health care as he sneaks the eradication of the ACA mandate to kill it just as more people are signing up.  He will make Medicare more expensive for seniors who are hurting.  This is how he pays for his tax cuts to the billionaires.  They are tax cuts for the rich and tax increases for everyone else.  He will and has cut food for children and will cut more programs for the poor. He flouts the Constitution's emoluments clause and laughs all the way to the bank making money on us, we the people and we let him just what our Founders did NOT want.

No one knows how much god save me I hate that man in the oval office and what ugly offspring sprung from his ugly loins. He is the evil antiChrist the Evangelicals talk so much about. Look to yourselves Evangelicals is THIS what you think Christianity is all about -- multiple divorces, multiple harassments, multiple businesses where he does NOT pay the people who worked for him, multiple conflicts of interest and unsavory Cretans even the Russian mafia and money launderers with whom he associates.  He is the Judas of our time and the name TRUMP on buildings is the 30 pieces of silver he trades for betrayal of a nation.  You may call it betrayal but I call it treason!

Putin has got something HUGE on this beast and the beast knows it which is why he kisses Putin's ring every chance he can get. He is MADNESS incarnate and will get us all killed but keep voting for these  Republicons and you will reap what you sow. You will pay through the nose while the 2% takes the money and runs to Panama the laundering capital of the world only to make more money than they already have but do not need. You will see no jobs, no money nothing as we have seen through decades that trickle down economics does not work it does not create jobs.

Unfortunately those who are the ethical among us will be taken down this unethical path with him.
