Please call and/or email the senators below and urge them to vote NO on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.  "Ms.  Ford revealed her identity on Sunday in The Washington Post after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) confirmed on Thursday that she was in possession of a letter accusing Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting a woman in his high school years. Ford alleges that Kavanaugh was “stumbling drunk” at a party in the 1980s when he pinned her to a bed, groped her, ground his body against hers and attempted to pull off her clothing.  Her accusation against Judge Kavanaugh is credible.  The FBI gave her a lie detector test and she passed.  She should be given a chance to testify before Congress.  Do not make a Clarence Thomas, a completely silent Supreme Court Justice accused credibly (there were three more witnesses willing to testify but silenced by an all male committee of the time) of sexual harassment by Anita Hill, mistake again."

Every day is another outrage. Leasing Federal Lands means that oil rigs could be cropping up on these gorgeous lands too. What have you done to us, America? Trump is our national nightmare. Every day in so many ways he is upending this gorgeous nation with its beautiful Federally protected lands. Of what twisted form is this president's heart of stone made? How can he live with himself and how can his allegedly sane children live with him, support his policies, get up in the morning and look at themselves in the mirror?

In the end this beast does not care really about anyone but himself but especially he does not care about human beings born with brown skin. He is our Shakespearean tragedy. My heart breaks and my eyes fill with tears. Even I, a doubting Thomas, pray to God to save us from this ugly tragedy!

The Realm of the Extremist Right

I convey my fervent hope that senators vote a decided no on the Kavenaugh SCOTUS nomination.  I ask those who oppose it as I do to contact their senators by phone and/or email.  If you know others in other states especially red ones please ask them to contact their senators as well.  For a number of reasons I oppose the nomination.  I quote a letter to the editor by a Susan Gibbs whom I thought best stated some of my beliefs.  She said:

"It is imperative that we have an independent judiciary. President Donald Trump has hand-picked Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court to do his bidding. Judge Kavanaugh is ready to change settled law, change the Constitution and take away rights we all enjoy among them health care. Millions will be denied it and ultimately die.  Moreover, he does not believe that charges can be brought against a sitting president. He will help Trump escape prosecution and consolidate power.

Judge Kavanaugh will not protect our clean air and water and will vote consistently with big corporations. He will take away women's rights, worker's rights, immigrant rights, consumers rights, LGBTQ rights and many more. He will sway the court in President Trump's favor if he is charged with multiple crimes against the American people. Senators should oppose this nomination."

I thought this letter summed up my reasons in opposition to Judge Kavenaugh's appointment to SCOTUS perfectly.  There are more reasons that make the affirmation of Judge Kavenaugh more than troubling and mendaciously suspicious.  He had a very hard time answering yes or no as to whether he spoke with a law firm attorney Kasowitz who is defending Donald Trump.  During his first day in the confirmation process he garbled his way through a non-answer answer.  It was not clear.  In his second day of sworn testimony he answered a definite no.  I suspect that he was lying as he had during the Bush administration when an email was found to prove he lied in his response to an issue of Democratic email stealing.  Perhaps if not confirmed for SCOTUS he could be impeached as a justice on the US Court of Appeals for perjury. 

Furthermore, as we know thousands of pages of Judge Kavenaugh's opinions have been withheld.  Thousands more given to Democrats with little time to review them.  The most problematic for me is that I suspect Judge Kavenaugh will rubber stamp the Trump administration's roll back of environmental pollution rules and the denial of science reported climate change.  It is no secret that many across our flood water choked nation are losing their homes and livelihoods due to climate change.  Yet another potential Category 4 hurricane is due to strike our North Carolina coast.  Our once pristine waters now are becoming again polluted because of the rollback of necessary environmental laws.  For these reasons it should be enough to vote a decided NO on Judge Kavenaugh's confirmation. 

In addition, however, Judge Kavenaugh was not on the original list Donald Trump was given.  Judge Kavenaugh was added, I must submit, because he was one who could be trusted to affirm presidential power and be a get-out-of-jail-free card for Donald Trump.  A reactionary turn to right wing extremist powers of hate, science denial, voter suppression and corporate elevation now are in a position to completely control the face of American power in a Republican attempt to control yet another branch of a division of powers government, the Supreme Court.  As President Obama said: How hard can it be to say that Nazis are bad?  Very hard if they are now a part of the so called Republican base.  Yet another reason to vote a resounding no on Judge Kavenaugh before our nation moves into another realm of the extreme right.   SEND THIS TO ANYONE YOU CHOOSE.

The Changes of Fall

The leaves will soon turn.  I feel a fall wind colored Democratic blue approaching.  Dare I hope an electoral blue tsunami propelled by progressive Democrats, persons of color and women is hovering ready for us to feel its forceful winds of change?  Democrats are, it seems, throwing caution to that wind unafraid of promoting their progressive ideals that help all people.  After all, to quote our inarticulate president what have we got to lose when a deplorable Trump and his lackeys afraid of Trump repercussions run rough shod over our democracy alienating democratic nations who heretofore were allies and kicking the teeth out of NATO?  Democratic moderation does not work.  It elects Republicans who are divisive and stand for the opposite of humanitarian policies for which Democrats do stand.

Can one imagine health care for all, a foreign policy that retrieves our loyal alliances, eschewing Putinesque tyranny, and a return to procedural normalcy?  Can one imagine policies in concurrence with the science-based realities of climate change melting arctic ice caps that someday will sink our coasts including Boston.  Progressives will attack climate change instead of withdrawing from a climate agreement that the majority of nations signed but from which our less than brilliant president has withdrawn.  Science does not care if one believes in it or not.  It will do what it will do despite the stupidity of some.   A blue wave could save the planet, your home and your life.  What your eyes see is real and it is truth -- the millions of gallons of flood waters all over the nation, tornadoes in states that rarely encounter them and more of them in states that do, and droughts promoting the onslaughts of devastating fire in the once beautiful California and the west so there is zero protection against rains that will come; ferocious hurricanes like Maria that hit Puerto Rico and a president who simply did not care about people with brown skin.  His efforts amounted to little more than throwing paper towels, an insult to people whose loved ones died -- 3,000 of them -- and not 64 dead as a president who lies all the time pronounced.  Can one imagine a legislature that cares about these things; that cares about children separated from their parents, some forever, by a Republican racist attempt to keep America white denying asylum to the tempest tossed of their own nations where death awaits.  

The Mad Men days of white control of our nation, abuse of women and ignoring minority lives are, in hope, coming to a close.  Even though one can see many persons of color, women and progressives on the precipice of victory our fight should never end.  Persons of color, women and progressives becoming engaged and winning means we all will win.  The force of this nation is in its perpetual motion trying still to fulfill its creed and dream that all men -- all -- are created equal etched in our Constitutional DNA and in the Declaration of Independence as our brilliant Founders said, endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights those of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  We are engaged in an eternal struggle with those who want to roll back and rip those rights from those who never had them but fought so fervently for them spilling blood to gain rights for their cause. 

The victories of Maria Robinson in my own Massachusetts 6th state district, in the national House by an upset win in Massachusetts 7th District the win taken by a person of color, Ayanna Pressley, and other hopefuls across the nation like progressive Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York defeating a long term congressman and importantly the Florida's governor's race showing Gilliam, a person of color slightly ahead of Republican DeSantis despite Republican racist robo calls against Gilliam.  Republicans win if they cheat, they negatively mendaciously advertise, are saturated with corrupting unlimited money, if they gerrymander districts to suit them and if Democrats and Progressives pay no attention and worse do not vote.

Persons of color, women, and progressives across the nation are diving into hope and running for office.  Democrats are signing up in droves and will vote in November.  Maybe just maybe the nightmare of Trump will come to a cataclysmic end.  In time, perhaps, we will thank the corruption of Donald J. Trump and his corrupt minions for making this progressive blue wave possible.  I am hoping for a fall Democratic wind of change to emerge soon.

A MUST SEE

A documentary was advertised, I believe, on MSNBC.  It is entitled "Active Measures."   If you love truth telling documentaries and even if you do not love documentaries but want to know the etiology between Trump and his love affair with Putin's Russia you must see this.   It can be seen though Itunes and Apple TV.  I searched in Apple TV under movies and it appeared.  One can rent it for only $3.99 and it is well worth it to see how the deplorable, corrupt, unethical, bully Trump made it to the most powerful office in the world.  It is, to say the least, a chilling expose of corruption not only of Trump but those in his cabinet and those Republicans who are afraid to, at the highest levels, oppose a man whose corruption knows no bounds.  It is still going on as I write this. 

The documentary is massive in its scope and true in its message.  The liaison between Trump and Russia did not just happen in 2016 but has a history going back decades.  Watch, see and believe what you are seeing and why Putin has Trump "over a barrel."  Then vote Democrat in the November 6, 2018 elections to take our nation back from crooks, thieves, liars, con men and the most unethical filthy administration in this nation's history corrupted by the greatest election con, perhaps, in the history of the world.

I have been told that power does not come from the top down.  Do not expect those who steal elections to renounce their ways.   Power comes from the bottom up; from we the people.  We are still a democracy but are on the precipice of losing it if we do not take power out of the hands of oligarchs and mendacious thieves and place it where it belongs--in the hands of those who want clean, ethical and principled government our Founders envisioned for us.

My Comment: A response from Pope Francis, a man whom I have liked, no matter how scathing cannot, at this point, say enough to rectify the many hypocrisies of pedophile priests who commit mortal sins within an institution that is all about teaching moral behavior and sin control.  Not so much, though, is that institution about washing out the stains of these sins from particular priests but more about preserving the institution in which they are allowed to thrive.  "Out, damned spot! out, I say" says Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth in Act V Scene I as she feels the sin of murder she knows they committed but she cannot wash it and the guilt she feels out.  The stain of sex abuse by clergy perpetrated on their own flock can never come out.  The institution itself needs massive change or face bankruptcy.  Think how many have been abused and multiply it 10 fold for those who died with an unsettled heart for being the victim of those priestly sex abuse sins upon them.  The number probably would be staggering.

Here is what I think should happen:  The Church first needs to pay damages to the thousands all over the world who were and still are abused by priests.  It needs also to expel those priests who have committed such ugly sins on children. If it cannot then it must declare bankruptcy as these abundance of accusations will, in the end, cost the Church millions and even, perhaps, billions.  The Church, in Reformation style, needs to renew itself.  It needs to include women among its clergy imbued with all the powers the Church bestows on its male priests and it needs to allow marriage of priests within the church.

The problem of sex abuse by Catholic priests upon children is not new and is a heinous thing.  The Church must imbue itself with massive change otherwise it will fracture and cease its 2000 year existence as we know it.   

What would Jesus say?:  "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." Matthew 18:6.

Trumpland Lies

"Traveler's in the Third Reich" by Julia Boyd seems like an interesting read but through the dark lens of history's hindsight of what really occurred in 1933 and beyond it is a warning. The Jewish people like Hispanics during the age of Trump were hunted down, captured, and killed or in the case of Hispanics, separated from their children and sent back to a country where they will be killed and/or brutalized at will.

Nothing can expunge the true history of the world's most despotic despot Hitler and his attempts, nearly successful, at the elimination of the entire population of the Jews of Europe.  Hispanic children coming with and eventually separated from their parent(s) want nothing more but to seek asylum because certain death awaits them in their country.  Trump lies and does so with impunity.  The preponderance of asylum seekers are not members of the lawless group M13 neither are they rapists.  

I am reminded of the 1 million Jewish children separated from their parents told they were going to the shower as Trump's henchmen told Hispanic mothers with children to calm them so they would await in silence their dastardly fate. Trump and his flock are criminals such as this nation has never seen with the exception of those who rounded up the Japanese during the Second World War and, of course, those who prospered by slavery itself.

Those of us with a shred of human decency and conscience revile the treatment of American Japanese who loved this nation and see its resemblance to the criminal Trump's treatment of Hispanic and other persons of color who have done no crime to this nation but merely want sanctuary in a nation that professes on its Statue of Liberty to "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"  Trumpland professes no such lofty thoughts but does rather like a more Hitlerian mantra “If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.”

There are no words in my vocabulary to state the extreme depravity of Trump's latest action, removing security clearance from John Brennan, one of the most knowledgeable American patriots who has dedicated decades of his life to the nation's national security trying to keep you and me safe.  I may not have always agreed with his opinion on policy but no one can expunge John Brennan's loyalty not to a Party but to the nation.  He has served under both Republican and Democratic presidents.  This unfit-for-the-presidency Trump is ready to deny so many others like John Brennan, based not on rational indictment for things they may have done but solely because they criticized Trump, the only person for whom Trump cares.  Because I do not have the words to express my disdain in extremis to Trump I will let the story below speak for itself.

Instead of waking up and wanting to jump out a window because of yet another of Drumpf's horrific heinous acts that compromises our democracy and national security, my heart soars listening to Omarosa, whom we first met on Trump's only success, the TV show "The Apprentice," as just retribution to a corrupt, mendacious, sickening, inhumane racist man of little intellect and zero understanding about the policies for which he advocates let alone empathy for the many human beings those polices adversely affect.

It is the perfect irony in the extreme and poetic justice reaching the heights of Everest that this woman of color, no matter her faults, could take this beast down by the truths she tells.  Praise the Lord let it be so!

Here is why I strongly support Maria Robinson.    As Maria has said she has a decade of experience working with state governments including legislatures, agencies and commissions.  She was also a Town Meeting Member.  Most impressively to me she is an MIT graduate with a degree in chemical engineering and a Master's Degree in law.  Moreover, her platforms encompass diversity.  She entertains progressive policy on education, health care, paid family leave, a living wage as well as fair and inclusive voting rights, affordable housing, and senior living.  She is supportive of LGBTQ rights, clean energy, consumer protection, immigration and cybersecurity. 

She will be a strong, ethical, honest and effective voice of the people giving the position of Representative 100% of her time and attention.  If I am supporting a candidate one can be assured that dishonesty will not be a part of her repertoire.  It is refreshing to me to have a candidate who believes in humane and progressive answers to the problems of our time.  As an example and as stated on her web page "she supports the Safe Communities Act which will allow law enforcement to focus on local crimes instead of acting as an agent of federal immigration policy.  This law will keep Framingham safer, as it will allow for our citizens to feel comfortable reporting local crimes." Most importantly to me, she supports a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers.

Judge halts mother-daughter deportation, threatens to hold Sessions in contempt--My Comment--A Republic?

A federal judge by his order literally turned around a plane that was headed for El Salvadorian violence and ordered a mother and daughter at risk of death there back to the US to have their case for asylum legally and procedurally heard as is their right. The judge said he would hold Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen in contempt if the plane carrying the mother and child were not ordered back to the US and, through due process, have their case for asylum heard.  The Trump administration in the dead of night whisked the mother and child away, placed them on a plane heading back to their Central American country from which they sought asylum.

I limit the amount of time I can endure hearing the disastrously inhumane Trump speak.  His incoherent irrationality is not much different from all Nationalist right wing governments including those of 1930's fame.  I rely on my writing and wonderful groups like the ACLU that fight for justice through the courts which gives me hope.  The mother and daughter because of the judge's order are now back safely in the US. 

I do not know what to focus on first because there is too much Trumpian corruption for one person to address it all.  Some cable plays to our urgent calls for social justice from this vile Trump administration's unconstitutional behavior. I understood Trump would be unfit for the presidency when he "won" it but I never thought he would be this bad issuing more than 3000 lies in 466 days during just the first term of his usurpation of power.   I believe he attained power through unlawful means that encompassed unconstitutional even treasonous assistance from an adversarial power, Russia.

I hope enough Independents understand, as Democrats do, how horrific this administration is and what a threat to our democracy it is as well.  One would have to be ignorant not to see how its unconstitutional behavior is manifested.  Unite the Right white supremacy is coming to Washington this weekend.  I hope no one gets killed as Heather Heyer did in Charlottesville on this day a year ago.  The right wing is NRA violent and armed to the teeth. 

I hope our non-violent voices against white supremacy can compete with the ever-so-violent right wing extremists.  If we had a president who was on the side of the powerless like other presidents were before him then I could feel some solace but we do not have that.  Trump has stoked the fires of hate.  We have a president who is on the side of violent racists and, I believe, that direction has trickled down even to the Charlottesville police who seemed to let Neo Nazis and Klansmen violence happen with little opposition.  It is the earmark of a fascist state when the powerless call for help but authority stands down.  That is when one knows democracy is in danger. 

"A Republic if you can keep it," Benjamin Franklin answered in 1787 when a woman asked the type of government the Founders created.  "A Republic if you can keep it."  Can we?
