Live or Die

Apropos of Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey and all the myriad of disasters that have warranted government assistance in the form of FEMA and other federal government help I want to see this picture more clearly as to how there could be anyone, anyone at all, whose heart was not breaking watching thousands in shelters, the homeless remaining on the street, the sick, the elderly, the handicapped and the infirm others carried out in wheelchairs or with oxygen tanks ripped from their familiar surroundings to an alien environment to save their lives (and animals' lives) from this latest climate change disaster, Irma.

What makes up a human being at a Republican convention say “let him die” if a young someone did not buy health insurance but, as unpredictable as life is, finds he desperately needs health care but does not have the ability to pay for it.  “Let him die” is what Republicans said.  It is what Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz said when he voted no on New Jersey Hurricane Sandy relief but when Houston was struck the Texas senator quickly took government money as he knew he was at risk of losing his political position if he did not secure government assistance for Houston.

Ayn Rand, the philosophical queen of self reliance, free enterprise advocate and loather of government intervention on whom Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has based his political philosophy -- with the exception of the atheist part --  took Social Security from government when she could.   So much for solely self reliance.

Those who align themselves with a philosophy that wants to trim government to the size of a Norquistian postage stamp, for which many right wing Republicans now advocate, have zero ethics and even less empathy.  I stand incredulous that they get as many as they do to support them.  Those that support them are often those who need government help the most. When right wing Republicans see they need government help such as Republican Ted Cruz of Texas recently did, curiously they sing a different tune.

The issue of government as an instrument of economic assistance before the Great Depression of 1929 saw presidents like Harding, Coolidge, and especially Hoover wax quizzical because they did not know what if anything government could do when people stood in breadlines to eat and sold apples on street corners because there were no jobs.  Hoover was shocked and stumped, as the grimace on his face showed when riding to Roosevelt’s inauguration, that Roosevelt won in a landslide running on a plank that government must help a nation in need because so many found themselves needing that help.

Before FDR a Horatio Alger alternative to either live or die without government assistance prevailed within the American bloodstream and crossed the blood brain barrier for decades.  It is
the Horatio Alger dilemma between free enterprise as the only source of wealth and help versus government assistance there to help when catastrophe strikes that is, as I see it, at the heart of the philosophical divide of our two party system.

Private enterprise is not in the game to help anyone as progressives know so well.  Private enterprise is in it for profit for the owners, the stockholders and no one else.  Your choice for them is  live or die; sink or swim on your own.  I choose living over dying and swimming over sinking.  Sometimes the massive help needed to do both can be provided only by the massive resources of the federal government.  FDR knew that and birthed the New Deal changing the role that government played to help us out of potentially fatal quagmires.  We should remember that time and remember our time when to depend on corporations to bestow help is like thinking you can ride on an alligator to get out of a swamp!

Science deniers will place all of us in peril

I have never in my life seen a globe in such utter peril. One massive hurricane after another ready to strike Florida and beyond -- massive damage expected and now a Richter Scale 8 volcano in Mexico you know the "wall builder" with possible tsunamis that could reach as far as CA.

Mother nature is angry alright angry at her creation -- man who puts imbeciles in positions of immense power to deny ALL that man has learned through science. ALL these weather catastrophes ALL of them are global climate change related and man's impetus behind them.

The ignorant will deny science and truth because that is what ignorants do. Sure blame it on a sky god and know that that sky god is mighty angry at you for denying the best and the brightest's version of science truth. Deny it at your peril.

Add to it an incompetent imbecile Trump waiving red flags in front of the bull N. Korea begging for war -- maybe even nuclear war -- coming to a theater near you soon!

Darwin survival of the fittest will prevail. Those who do deny science will die I just don't want them to bring the rest of us with them.

A battle we must win

In response to David Livingstone Smith's provocative editorial ((linked at the bottom) "Fighting hate is a losing battle" in the September 3, 2017 issue of the Sunday Globe I am perplexed by what he attempts to say.

The main objection I have is that he offers no remedy of what to do about the so called "Alt Right" whites who are upset by those "other" human beings who are allegedly at the heart of their grievances and a  threat to their white power "heritage.”  He gives one no idea of what to do about the white majority who have perceived grievances against not only one but various minorities because of an ascribed status those minorities cannot change. The concepts behind white power anger against their perceived offenders is often times demonstrably false.

Hate put forth by the Alt Right including nationalists, the KKK or American Nazis may be because of alleged grievances but it is hate nonetheless. There are different kinds of hate or, for the purposes of this article, grievances by them some of which not only cry out for verbal opposition but demand fervent action against them as well.  There are reasons behind white hate, yes, but they are, more often than not, consummately wrong at best if not insane at worst.

Nazis did, in fact, hate Jews simply for being Jews which we know has a long history in Europe sometimes entitled the longest hatred and tried to enact the harshest most sadistic punishment possible on them because of an ascribed status no Jew could change.  It was not simply unjust treatment of Jews it was, in fact, murder of them.  It was not only unfair but it was lethal. The number of six million Jewish dead at the hands of Nazis has been scrupulously documented often by Nazis themselves and it speaks for itself.  What is a Jew in America to do when he views white men parading like Nazis at night with Tiki Torches and with swastika flag in tow?  Perhaps just yawn?  I think not.

Persons of color in this nation were thought of by whites who owned them more than simply chattel but an inferior subclass of human who could be treated any way the white owner wished. The fate of the unlucky black child whose only sin was to be born black and the harsh future that awaited him/her was predetermined at birth by something they could not change.  The injustice perpetrated on blacks in this nation, too, for three centuries has screamed out for opposition, demanded fervent action and still does.

Relegating various minority groups to submission to the dictates of a white majority is not only noxious and unfair it is also life-threatening.  Whites have not been a minority and are not now a minority. They are the majority. Statistics of prosperity, generally, among white men do not lie.  They do, on the whole, quite well.

This nation was founded by human beings who did not want to be treated unfairly by a tyrant.  Emma Lazarus's poem on Lady Liberty that says "give me your tired your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free ..." means something and requires us to reject hate which is what is the product of the oppositional grievance and promulgated by those white men who have for three centuries had it all.

Expectation of Violence on the Right

In response to Diane King's August 20, 2017 letter entitled "Demonizing the Charlottesville rally gatherers" (linked below) I must disagree with her position but surely agree with the Metrowest News's right to print it.  There is a conundrum for progressives here as I see it weighing the rights of free speech against the moral obligation of protesting the messengers of the hate.  If one looked closely in Charlottesville at those who appropriated their constitutional free speech guarantee one saw hundreds of white men with Tiki torches ablaze uttering inflammatory rhetoric such as "Jews will not replace us."  Moreover, we saw swastika emblazoned flags being carried by them proudly.  Those rabidly anti Semitic remarks carrying Nazi ornaments are reminiscent of the Nazi movement in Europe of the 1930's once thought dead and buried but now because of the Trump presidency have been given not only life but horrifically power.

Nuremberg has taught us that it is our moral obligation to meet the messengers of hate with opposition and they were met, of course, with that.  The political right must expect moral outrage to their incendiary message.  The extremist right is gun loving, gun toting violent happily screaming they were going to kill their opposition if they had to.  One need only remember the murder of 168 innocents 19 of whom were children by the right wing nationalist, Timothy McVeigh, when he parked a truck packed with explosives near the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma he thought a dandy way to lodge his protest against the federal government.  More than 650 other people were injured in the bombing that damaged or destroyed more than 300 buildings as well.

The immorality and violence of the extremist right is the reality of the extremist right.  The right is saturated with unnecessary fury since white men have held power and still do for over 300 years.  Worse they are loaded for bear toward any they deem the "other."  Their mantra that their white identity (as if there were one) is at risk of replacement is reductio ad absurdum.

Given the past horrors of extremist right wing nationalist movements as being those who kill those they deem the "other" by the millions because of an ethnic supremacist irrational rationale it is incumbent upon all moral men and women of good conscience to oppose them by any means necessary!

Reminder

The link below is a reminder as to the intrinsic psychopathology of this president. The toxic utterances revealed in this link were said in March, 2017. That it was said at all is outrageous beyond words. We who are members of one ascribed minority status or another: Immigrants, Hispanics, persons of color, the disabled, women, LGBT, Muslims, Jews and many others should examine our commonality and collective powerful majority to take what should be rightfully ours back. We should stress those things which can unite us and not emphasize our differences that divide us. We are all, each one of us, in this together. What hurt can happen to one can happen to all. We are the majority of this nation but through an anachronistic electoral system have managed to hand the inordinate and toxic reins of immense power to a sad excuse for humanity who appeals to the forces of hate and who, in fact, could ruin the earth and all of us with it.

We must join hands and see Trump and those white supremacists, racists, homophobes, misogynists, Islamophobes and anti-Semites who support him as our adversaries whom we must fight electorally to hand the reins of power where it belongs with the majority of this nation who are empathetic, kind and just so that this ugly, mendacious, sickening cauldron of hate not prevail again!

Still I came upon another more benign quote worthy of thought:

BONUM VERUM PULCHRUM

"Life is not just a succession of events or experiences, helpful though many of them are. It is a search for the TRUE, the GOOD and the BEAUTIFUL. It is to this end that we make our choices; it is for this that we exercise our freedom; it is in this – in truth, in goodness, and in beauty – that we find happiness and joy. Do not be fooled by those who see you as just another consumer in a market of undifferentiated possibilities, where choice itself becomes the good, novelty usurps beauty, and subjective experience displaces truth.” PBXVI July 2008
… do not be fooled

The “big lie,” Father Benedict said, (and I’m paraphrasing him at this point), is to think that if we say all the right prayers and live correctly, then nothing bad will ever happen to us." - Michael Dubruiel

Houston we Have a Problem!!

Yeah sure, Trump you insipid fool, climate change is a hoax you say. You blithering idiot and all those who follow this stupid horse's ass are surely suffering from climate change now. Hard to admit Al Gore, the Democrat believer in science, said so decades ago. He could see the inconvenient truth! Funny thing about us Democrats we think science rules.

Drumpf, just say climate change is a hoax so you don't have to do a thing about it while you give the coal diggers hope that their toxic black lung swill they mine is not going away because it will be renewed by Drumpf and their life will be roses. As my pulmonary cousin physician's license plate used to say KOF, KOF! Oh yes, think of all the oil Drumpf and his cronies can plunder as well.

But go away these merchants of fossil fuel death will because they must as fossil fuels are killing the planet and us with it. Sure, Drumpf, tell them to keep their pipe dreams of the glory days of daddy's coal mining so that Trump the liar-in-chief can say he was president for a day while Rome drowns to death in floods, burns to death in fires, dies of thirst in droughts or watches all their homes blown away in tornadoes while catastrophic blizzards ruin it all too.

Oh and while one is watching these catastrophic sights watch the glaciers melt and icebergs break off raising the ocean levels to the heights of Everest so ultimately New York City will be fun for sail boats, Boston Harbor will engulf all of Boston and Florida will cease being the sunshine state.

Trump is, I aver, a murderer among all his other psychopathology because he knew exactly what he was doing and saying to get the rust belt votes he needed. They bought the bate hook, line and stinker and made him Fuhrer for a day. Now Houston, I believe, we have a problem!!.

RESIST AND IMPEACH THIS MEGALOMANIACAL CRACKPOT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

Apologies for an over abundance of email but our nation's democratic pillars are falling because of this imbecile with immense presidential power.  The articles I find state the essence of the danger we face much better than I ever could.  You MUST know. Below is a letter from Bill Moyers and then a brilliant piece by Charles Kaiser. It is what I fear!

This morning, I received an email from an old friend — one of the country’s top trial lawyers: “I have underestimated Trump. He knows what is coming, including a variety of criminal charges and other impeachable offenses. He is not just arousing his base to anger but to arms, some of them. There is no other way to explain the transgender ban, the Arpaio pardon, his Charlottesville remarks…

“I would think he will pardon himself, family members, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort, among others, and if he is angry enough, Mrs. O’Leary, who, you must admit, got kind of a raw deal.” [Note: Myth has it that one Kate O’Leary’s cow kicked over a lantern in the barn and started the Great Chicago Fire of l871. She was widely blamed but never charged.]

And the following came from the journalist and author Charles Kaiser. His books include Gay Metropolis, 1968 in America, and The Cost of Courage, a riveting account of one family that joined the French resistance against the Nazi occupation.

— Bill Moyers

Donald Trump’s pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio marks the real beginning of the coming constitutional crisis in America.

Trump started tweeting trial balloons about this a month ago — “all agree the US president has the complete power to pardon” — and he has even asserted the unlitigated idea that he can pardon himself. But what he did yesterday puts his presidency on a whole new plane: a Category 5 political hurricane. By pardoning a man convicted of criminal contempt for direct violation of a federal order, Trump is now flaunting his eagerness to overturn the rule of law in America.

I have never seen anyone who has acted more obviously guilty than Donald Trump has almost every single day since he became president. From his tête-à-tête with James Comey, in which he asked the FBI director to end his investigation of Michael Flynn, to his firing of the same man when he failed to heed that warning, to his newly-reported phone call to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) to complain about a bill that would protect special counsel Robert Mueller’s independence, the president has engaged in one blatant attempt to obstruct justice after another.

Here is the most logical way to view his pardon of Sheriff Arpaio: It is the latest and gravest step he has taken in his continuing efforts to undermine the rule of law. Obviously Trump delighted in fueling the racism of Arpaio’s supporters by pardoning this convicted criminal — he made that clear earlier this week during his repellent speech in Phoenix. But I am certain that is not the main reason for this heinous act.

For many weeks, Washington has been swirling with rumors that Mueller already has secured the cooperation of Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort in his investigation of the president. And Trump undoubtedly is more vulnerable to the testimony of these two men than he is to that of any other players in this fearful drama. Therefore, Trump must feel compelled to send this message through Arpaio’s pardon: The president is eager and willing to do the same thing for anyone who might be pressured into testifying against him.

I have a written a book about France under fascism, and what we are now experiencing is exactly what incipient fascism looks like. The combination of Trump’s relentless assaults on the free press, his open encouragement of Nazis — which is the only honest description of his initial refusal to condemn them — and now a pardon without even pretending to go through the normal channels of the Justice Department: These are all the acts of man who is blatantly defying his sacred pledge to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Like the men and women of Vichy France who began their collaboration with the Nazis seventy-seven years ago, from now on, every senator and House member of either party who continues to remain silent about this president’s unconstitutional acts is directly complicit in the high crimes and misdemeanors of Donald Trump.

I know very serious students of American justice who already were convinced last night that the pardon of Arpaio has fatally undermined Robert Mueller’s investigation by killing the incentive for anyone to testify against this president. Personally, I am not yet that pessimistic. I still believe that any pardon of Flynn or Manafort or Jared Kushner will produce a large enough firestorm to end Donald Trump’s presidency, either through impeachment or the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which would allow his removal by a majority vote of his cabinet.

But if there is a majority of Republican senators and House members who wish to avoid a full-blown constitutional crisis worse than anything we have seen since the secession of the Confederate states, they must speak loudly and act clearly right now. They must immediately pass the bill introduced by Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware and Republican Senator Tillis of North Carolina that would shore up the independence of the special prosecutor, and they must pass it with veto-proof majorities.

Senator Lindsay Graham already has said that the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions would mean the beginning of the end of Trump’s presidency. It is long past time for all of Graham’s colleagues in both houses to declare that the same thing will be true if the president dares to repeat the horrific abuse of his pardon power that we witnessed last night. Otherwise, America is destined for an era of violence and darkness unlike any we have ever witnessed since the end of the Civil War, one hundred and fifty-two years ago.

Chris Hedges speech some say his best

Chris Hedges is one of the important intellectuals of our time.  He has words of comparison of Trump, et al to other dynasties.  It is not dry, it is contemporary and it is, I think, worth listening.

On Bannon's Exit

This has been brewing for weeks. It is amazing in this combustible presidency that the roof of the White House has not blown out with the steam of discord. How will Bannon's exit affect Trump's ignorant presidency? Not much. Trump does what Trump wants. He does not let even John Kelly, a general, have the last word. Trump does what Trump wants at a Trump moment a thought comes into his vacuous head even if it is a General Pershing lie.

Trump must remove himself as well. Al Gore told him to in one word RESIGN to which I vote yes! Sooner or later Mueller's magic will do it for him. Either way in due time he will be a stain, like the Confederacy was, upon the historical legacy of this nation! Sad.

On Trump's Charlottesville statement Tuesday, August 15

It is not surprising to me at all that Trump uttered his wildly erroneous thoughts about the violence in Charlottesville, VA. It is exactly how he feels.  I beg to differ with him.  There are not two sides to the issue protested and there is not one nice person shouting "Jew will not replace me" nor is there one nice person among Neo Nazis, racists, KKK, Confederates and Robert E. Lee lovers.  There is not one nice person who would advocate paying homage to a man who waged rebellious war and perpetrated thousands of deaths upon this country.

Usually a nation does not pay homage to those in a military who lost a war.   One does not find a statute anywhere in Germany saluting Himmler, Goebbels, Hitler and the rest of the perpetrators of World War II horror that saw 50 million dead.  It would be illegal to create and show in public a statute to their memory or to fly a Nazi flag in Germany.  It is even illegal to deny the Holocaust.  In this country, however, where approximately 400,000 gave their lives in WWII fighting Nazis our president thinks some of the Tiki-torch carriers in support of a racist cause "fine people" simply protesting the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue.  This ignorant president knows nothing of history.  Robert E. Lee was nothing short of a racist supreme who waged war against his country and killed about 200,000 Union soldiers to keep an economic system of oppression where one white man could not only own a black man but strip him of all rights brutalizing him mercellously.  He thought the white man intrinsically superior.  Lee was lucky an accident of birth created him a white man of privilege.  Robert E. Lee waged a war of treasonous rebellion.  He and other Confederates were lucky not to have been executed for it but the Union president, Abraham Lincoln, rejected that to pacify those who fought for the so called Confederate "Cause" against the Union.  He did not want to alienate them. He wanted to unite.

This Cretan Trump depends upon the so called Alt Right to keep him in power. It is a damnable thing. Think of the hundreds of thousands (400,000 approx.) Americans who died in WWII fighting Nazis to keep Europe and the US allies all over the world free. If we did not win we would be under the Nazi jackboot today and I for one would never have been born. My parents and all my relatives would have been killed.   It chills me to think about what this president is and what he has said.

We must NEVER given in to the ugliness of this ugly historical era perhaps the ugliest with the exception (maybe) of the Civil War period. I leave this post with one thought: An Alt right extremist male was interviewed. He was a bit critical of Trump because he thought Trump did not go far enough right wing for him. He said indicting Trump "After all Trump GAVE his daughter to a Jew!" Imagine Trump hearing that.  Does that anti-Semitic statement leave a mark on crackpot Trump's brain? I suspect not. I think Trump would give up even his daughter to hold power. It is the earmark of a narcissistic sociopath. What on god's earth created such a sad, mendacious, miscreant and worse how did this cancerous miscreant infect us?

YES WE WILL!!

The state of the nation is atrocious. It is not atrocious because there are neo Nazis, KKK and white supremacists in our midst as there always have been in our midst neo Nazis, KKK and white supremacists sympathetic to the 1860 Confederate secessionist cause. Many wanted and still do to chase Jews, blacks and other minorities -- especially third-world ones -- out of the nation and do it through the use of violence or transporting the threat of it in a sidecar of their political beliefs.

I remember well Lincoln Rockwell, the founder of the American Nazi White People's Party, in the 1960's before he was gunned down by a fellow neo Nazi. I recall the history of America's hero of flight, Charles Lindbergh, who visited Hitler and supported an American alliance with Germany's Third Reich. When the nation engaged in the fight against fascism Lindbergh advocated national neutrality to remain out of WWII which would have, of course, given Hitler the win. But the nation is not even atrocious for that.

The nation is atrocious because once tucked away in crackpot corner extremists on the right now have been given a voice and a seat at the table of power in the White House by a president who knows the support he gets is directly related to them. He may even owe them his election as president. It is the new visibility of the proponents of right wing extremism through Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, Sebastian Gorka and others as presidential advisors, that these once merely tolerated crazies have been given a cerebral high of presidential support they never had or thought they would. have.
A gift has been given to the extremist right by 24/7 news coverage of the horror and death at Chancellorsville and by the extensive news coverage its sensationalism engenders.

The gift the extremist right has been given is a voice at the dinner table of power. That is what makes the national milieu now so atrocious. We of humane thought and political belief are adversaries of the violent, inhumane and toxic right. We are in a state of shock and fear we have seldom experienced before.

Barry Goldwater, Republican candidate for the presidency in 1964 but defeated in a landslide, lit the first match during his acceptance speech at the 1964 Republican convention in which he delivered his famous quote:

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"

Will that match be extinguished once the Trump presidency is no longer? "A Republic if you can keep it" Benjamin Franklin uttered. The answer to that question hopefully will be yes we will but I cannot say that now for sure!

The Light of National Survival

The torch-light march of hundreds of men around the statue of Confederate General and racist supreme Robert E. Lee exists because Trump gave them a voice to exist. They have been searching for their lucky break since Lincoln Rockwell and Charles Lindbergh of the 1930's era took up the Nazi cause. Now they have, in this era, Trump and solely because of him occupy advisory seats in the oval office. White supremacists are, after all, a large part of Trump's 35% base and he will never abandon them because he has no one else.

The violence in Charlottesville is nothing new but what is new is giving voice to those that were pushed initially to the political periphery and discounted as too extreme. Now Trump has changed that and allowed an extreme rightwing philosophical Neo-Nazi, KKK, anti Semitic, anti-immigrant nativist base to take up residence in the White House. While the Steve Bannons, Sebastian Gorkas and Steven Millers within the Republican Party get to occupy advisory seats in the White House at taxpayer expense our nation can never be free of this right wing extremist menace and its ugly, cruel and inhumane politics. They must be roundly defeated.

I believe the Democratic message is one that is shared by most in our nation accounting for Hillary's 3 million popular vote advantage in the 2016 election. Yet our Republican opposition keeps winning those positions of power in local, state and national elections. We must run for positions of influence, we must work tirelessly to get out the vote, and, most importantly, I believe, we must electorally overthrow the Republican usurpation of those important seats by intelligently looking at how districts are drawn.

Our power in numbers is the reason we can spontaneously get out a million people to march on Washington. It is the reason, too, behind the 3 million popular vote win by Clinton and yet with all of that we are unable to retain majorities in both the House, the Senate, while losing in state houses and governorships around the nation as well.

Along with us who have occupied the progressive base for decades, I am ultimately counting a new generation to be handed the baton of leadership winning races for progressive causes across the country. Nothing less than the light of national survival is at stake.

The Hate He Dares Not Speak Of-- NYT editorial August 13, 2017

White supremacists see President Trump’s failure to condemn them as a sign of implicit support. Which of course it is.

Think Again

Comment: The reporting below is what the miscreant Trump has wrought. Did you think something like this in 2017 after hard fought for minority rights had been won that groups like the KKK, the National Alliance, Alt Right and other contemporary spin offs of 1930's Nazi Europe were completely defeated? Think again.

Trump's victory in this nation has brought back out from underneath a rock the racist sewage raining down upon this nation yet again because it never really left. If most of you think that you will not be struck by its violence I ask you to think again. If you thought a bloody Civil War in this nation killing 620,000 of our people brother against brother stopped this ugly part of our nation's past I ask you to think again. Think again and again because its excrement is in front of your very eyes every day one watches the 24/7 news cycle of Trump until our ears bleed with its screeching sound and our eyes are blinded by its ugly sights. Our hard fought for minority rights will not be taken from us because once won we will never let any temporary occupant of the oval office or occupants of the seats of Congress take them away. Those hard fought for civil rights are indelibly written on our hearts no matter what malevolence is in power.

By a fluke of the archaic electoral college system yet again history's lame dictate gave the hateful Trump and his cronies undeserved occupation of our offices of once fair play and democratic rule even though he could not win the popular vote. We can, I think, take heart that the majority of this nation do not think as Trump and his cronies do nor will they achieve the hate for which they so frighteningly march the story of which is told below.

Our message must be clear and in pertinent part to Winston Churchill's speech to Parliament on June 4, 1940 rallying the British in its fight against the right wing extremism of Nazism's dictatorship and its dastardly attack against Britain "... we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." It was true then and it is true now here after the onslaught of the mendacious, cruel and asinine Trump. If you think the forces of hate will win think again. Those of us on the side of humane thought and who promote what is fair and what is just will never surrender and always RESIST!

Torch-Wielding White Supremacists March at University of Virginia

by Kurt Chirbas and F. Brinley Bruton

Crowds of torch-wielding white supremacists marched through the University of Virginia in Charlottesville Friday, chanting "you will not replace us" and "blood and soil."

Video showed protesters also chanting "Jews will not replace us" and "white lives matter."

According to NBC affiliate WVIR, the marchers clashed with counter-protesters when they arrived at a statue of Thomas Jefferson, the U.S.’s third president and the university's founder.

At least one person was arrested and several others treated for minor injuries, according to local newspaper The Daily Progress. Both sides reported being hit with pepper spray, the newspaper added.

Reuters and a number of local reports put the number of protesters in the hundreds. The Washington Post reported that the march lasted between 15 and 20 minutes.

University and local police did not respond to numerous requests for information on the incident.

The Virginia National Guard told NBC News it was monitoring the situation and was ready to "rapidly respond to assist local law enforcement if needed."

The demonstration came on the eve of another far-right march of white nationalists, neo-Nazis and members of the so-called alt-right movement.

According to The Daily Progress, city police estimate between 2,000 and 6,000 will attend Saturday's Unite the Right march on Charlottesville.

Friday's march drew condemnation from local and university officials.

"I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the hateful behavior displayed by torch-bearing protesters that marched on our grounds this evening," University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan said in a statement. "I strongly condemn the unprovoked assault on members of our community, including university personnel who were attempting to maintain order."

"The violence displayed on the grounds is intolerable and is entirely inconsistent with the university's values," the statement added.

Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer's called the demonstration a "cowardly parade of hatred, bigotry, racism and intolerance."

He added: "Everyone has a right under the First Amendment to express their opinion peaceably, so here's mine: Not only as the Mayor of Charlottesville, but as a UVA faculty member and alumnus, I am beyond disgusted by this unsanctioned and despicable display of visual intimidation on a college campus."

The King Center, founded by civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr.'s widow Coretta Scott King, tweeted that "racism never left America."

Letting off Steam

I refuse to call Drumpf president. He is as bad as the N. Korean despot, demagogue Kim. They both will get us all killed sending us into a nuclear war. The 25th Amendment would get Drumpf out and it should be used as the wheels of Mueller justice turn too slowly. There is nuclear war on the horizon. He knows about nuclear war because his uncle told him about it 35 years ago. The man does not read. He gets his information from a half page of bullet points and pictures. Sounds like I'm talking about an infant. I am. He is a child and a sick one at that.

Drumpf lies and does so ALL the time. He says he passed so many bills and has done so much. He's passed nothing. He is a fraud and a liar but to get his base to believe reality seems impossible. At this point because of the international emergency I am desperate. I would even take Pence. Sec. of State is fourth in line if the others are guilty of perjury, fraud, obstruction of justice or anything else. Tillerson, Sec. of State seems rational. I know that will never happen as I know this crackpot Drumpf will get us all killed and does not care one inch for anyone except for himself. He is SICK!

He blames, Obama for everything including living, blames McConnell, bad mouths Sessions his own supporters. I hope they steam roll him out of office. How about blaming himself for failure of the rancid health care bill the particulars of which he knew nothing. His foil was, in essence, the people who knew the Republicrat healthcare bill would screw them if passed.

Oh yes, if by some chance we survive through September I could easily see the debt ceiling not raised for the first time. That will send our economy and the world economy into convulsions. You think the 2007 Recession was bad? Just wait.

RESIST

The Resistance must NEVER let up. Keep it going so these Republican beasts whose palm is greased by corporate buckets of money and lobbying to which the majority of Americans cannot compete. BUT we CAN show up at the town halls and ultimately at the ballot box and throw these malevolent Republican jerks out!

Republicans are obviously so bad and so corrupt in my crystal ball IF Americans will wake up we WILL flip the House and the Senate to Democratic blue. We have MUCH to overturn what the Trump sick agenda through Executive Orders has done but we can and will do it once we have power. We stopped much with the little power we have.

We can do it. RESIST Republican attempts to turn back the clock to the 1950's when if you were a person of color or other minority, a woman, disabled, elderly or gay the life you experienced probably was hell!

" Trump’s Warning To North Korea Called ‘Exactly Wrong’ And ‘Reckless’ “That is about the stupidest and most dangerous statement I have ever heard an American president make.”

Donald Trump: “They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. [North Korean leader Kim Jong Un] has been very threatening beyond a normal state.”

Kim Jong Un: “The slightest sign of attempt to remove our supreme leadership” will lead to a “merciless blow” with its “powerful nuclear hammer.”

Two unhinged crackpot leaders one at the head of the most powerful nuclear powered nation on earth; the other the demagogue leader of a totalitarian state both making unhinged verbal threats of war between two nuclear armed nations. There are, of course, other nuclear powered nations in that neck of the woods riding sidecar nearby. What could possibly go wrong?

Many of those who have not seen nor experienced the realities of this nuclear weapon think it is an exciting all powerful armament they cannot wait to use. Perhaps it is appropriate to show what a nuclear attack really means. Watch and learn. It may be the most important sight you see in your lifetime. Anyone who threatens the use of such an unconscionable weapon should see its reality and pray to whatever god one worships or, indeed, if one worships no god at all and know exploding a nuclear bomb will be an existential threat and life eradicating use of a weapon that harnesses the most powerful force on earth.

There has been only one nation, the United States of America, that has used such a weapon when the rest of the world did not possesses it. The US exploded "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" in August, 1945 on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan ostensibly to finally end the war in the Pacific so US troops would not have to risk thousands of casualties by an invasion of mainland Japan. One can debate that rationale. What one cannot debate is that the use of these bombs introduced to the world the most destructive, life and planet annihilating weapon in man's arsenal and those bombs by today's standards were "small." Upon its explosion think on the statement of Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific director of the Manhattan Project that developed the nuclear bomb:

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
Look and see so you will know the reality of what two pathological narcissistic leaders have threatened to use and then go and through diplomacy make sure they do not sin again:

Sinclair and the fourth estate--STOP SINCLAIR or offer progressive competition to it

MSNBC has done some good reporting on this latest threat to our democracy, Sinclair and Trump News. I believe for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

I hope in progressive arenas we will offer some severe competition to this latest attempt by conservatives to saturate the airwaves with lies and rightwing propaganda as they have all across the nation when broadcasting on radio and other media. They do this now because they can and Fox News is in trouble. Rachel Maddow and MSNBC has dominated the networks now in the era of the real fake rightwing news--Donald Trump and his cronies. Rightwing funders have nearly unlimited cash and importantly they have the Commissioner of the FCC held by a Trump advocate who placed him in the position. Probably the FCC will grant a license to Sinclair Corporation which seeks to expand local news broadcasting by 72% across the nation. Its influence will be saturating as the article below reports.

Progressives MUST seek funding and promote competition to this latest attempt by conservatives to not only control the legislatures (state and national), the presidency, the courts but now they want the fourth estate, the media. We must offer them competition to all of it by keeping our eyes and ears open to their egregious attempts to monopolize power and present the true fake news for which Trump advocates.

Sinclair and other so called "conservative" media are attempting when Trump is gone or jailed to harness the base of his support. Do not let them do that without a fight by harnessing progressive power and we have lots of it. Beat them at their own game. Find money and ethical persons of business consequence and financial ability who can do this. In the interim we can alert our own base to this latest power grab and we can

RESIST.
